Right on! The Imperial Courier is definitely one of the best ships. To start off, just go to Zaonce and buy some other ship with more equipment (Lasers aren't important yet, the ECM and Docking Comps should be the priority).

The Imperial Courier is doing well now.But are there any more powerful lasers or weapons than the Military Laser? The Plasma Cannon is absolutely weak.......despite its exciting name, more than 40 accurate shots continuously and yet the bloody ship is still flying.

You can always hack the save file since Oolite is free source. Search for "legal status" in your text editor and change the number at the bottom to "0". Load your game back after that.
