I just installed 1.72.2 on my old Windows XP laptop (Pentium 4, Radeon 9700) and all the stars and stellar background images are various rotations of the glow texture. I had a similar problem on my new Vista laptop (currently back with the manufacturer) where the Trumble used the glow texture instea...

Being a sailor, I can tell you that you absolutely right. It is called " Great Circle Navigation" and brings in such wonderful mathematics as Spherical trigonometry and so on. It is quire simple really, shortest distance between two points on a sphere, is not a straight line, but a curve....

I don't have any OXPs, but I do have fuel scoops.

I was at Xeeranre, and I wanted to get to Zadies, but it was out of range (7.2 LY), so I hyperspaced to Anarlaqu. I then found that I had enough fuel to immediately hyperspace to Zadies.

Just as I am approaching the planet, at about the time the space station becomes visible, I usually see a few bright flashes against the planet. What's going on there?

The graphic is fixed now - I tried to get rid of my Trumble by flying close to the sun, but I mis-judged it and blew up, and on re-loading the graphic looks like a cute big-eyed yellow alien now. I had already tried re-starting and re-booting.

*Update:* Got it! Fried trimble for breakfast.

This is in my save file:so it's definitely supposed to be a Trumble.

If it's a broken image of a trumble, that won't help...they basically eat EVERYTHING (aside from machinery, computers, weapons, gems, gold and platinum)!

I only know of one con-store in G1 that will always give 100+Cr for food and textiles.

What's a con-store?

I don't remember buying it, I bet I scooped it up by accident. I don't remember scooping anything, although I did collide with a shuttle, maybe that was it. I haven't started fighting yet.

I have a truncated yellow blob floating round my screen making a purring sound! It's in the top left corner of this screenshot, but it floats around randomly.

It seems to me that getting places takes a lot longer than in the original Elite. More encounters with more pirates (which is death when I just have a pulse laser), and when you arrive at the planet, it takes longer to get to the space station. Maybe it's just my imagination and the fact that I don'...
