This is where the cloaking device comes in real handy. Take out the escorts while cloaked, then uncloak for the mark. Obviously you won't get bounties for the escorts; but they're not the main targets. Sneaky, I know, and you've got to keep an eye on your energy; but it works.

I tried Diziet Sma's suggestion and that didn't really help, just increased the time for maintenance up to 5-6 jumps. I've recently bought a Falcon S; but it needs a maintenance overhaul after every few jumps, even when I've not seen any combat. Is this the penalty I have to pay to fly such a cool ship, or is there a problem?

You'll start by being offered basic parcel deliveries; but once your reputation improves you'll be offered much more interesting missions. Try hanging around Communist and Democratic systems to start witn and you'll eventually be contacted.

I reached Elite on the Amiga way back when. Finally reached Elite on Oolite last week. Yay!

The same thing happened to me last week. I was docking and was flicking between views (pretty ships!!!) when the display just locked on the rear view. A bit worrying; but I was close enough to the station to autodock, and on re-launch it was back to normal. Strange.

I agree whoeheartedly. This game has taken me right back to the heady days of Elite Plus on the Amiga. Many thanks to all concerned.
