I personally can also make a case for 'realism' that would involve not changing the ship statistics for such things. We're still theoretically dealing with a weightless environment. It doesn't take much effort to turn a ship, really. <physicsNerd>Ahh, but manoueverability would be affected by mass,...

Retro-rokets were pointless IMHO. Now we have witchspace fuel injectors they are even more redundant, just flip over 180 degrees and 'afterburn' your way out of there, while getting off a few parting shots

AFAICR from BBC Elite, yes, the planet-sun distance did seem to be a bigger than in Oolite.

Although it may also be worth mentioning that, due to a rounding error in BBC Elite it was possible to make the planet disappear completely if you travelled repeatedly between the sun and the planet.

And the attack drone? It would be great if you could store, say a sidewinder inside your anaconda and launch it when attacked - maybe to re-scoop it when all targets have been destroyed. I seem to remember Chris Pinder was working on this for his 'Darkness Falls' game before it got canned. Not havin...

As a fugitive, I would imagine there would be a bounty on your head and hence the 'badder' you are the more likely that you'll come across some highly tooled-up bounty hunters. I propose that as well as passenger and freight missions there should be Bounty notices on particular hard-nuts that are kn...

If your animated .gif is not looped (IE. it stops on the final frame) then the final frame will be displayed if it is cached in your browser and the animation will not play. If your final frame is black - then all you'll see is a black image.

You ought to be able to copy the Competent pilot file over…
yeah, must track it down. Still I like starting from scratch.

BTW, apologies for the seeming non sequitor of my original post - I seem to have posted to the wrong thread

Made Elite on the beeb. Deadly on Atari ST, got bored though. Snipering grey blobs from a distance gets tedious after a while. Got to competent in Oolite on my crappy old windows laptop (1.10.1-gui-0.9.4) before finally despairing of the ghastly framerate and lack of space compass. Currently 'Mostly...

Haven't done it on Oolite yet, but on Beeb Elite I used to have mining lasers on the sides so I could do a bit of mining. Mining was generally pretty boring and unrewarding (financially) though - I wonder if it's any more rewarding in Oolite...

Well to make money as you start out the best strategy is to do some trading: The best profits can be made by buying agricultural produce (mostly Liquor/Wines and Furs) at 'Poor Aricultural' planets and selling them at 'Rich Industrials'. Then buying Computers or Luxuries at the 'Rich Industrials' an...

Space Compass

FWIW the space compass has never worked for me in Windows (both the plain vanilla and advanced one). Probably due to the antiquated ATI Rage Mobility Gfx card in my creaking old laptop.

Played the latest build on my housemate's eMac this weekend. I'm now considering 'the switch'

The original Elite used a pseudo-random fibonacci style number generator to create the data for each galaxy from an initial seed-value. I would venture that OOlite has a very similar (reverse engineered) version of the Bell/Braben algorhythm as, as far as I can remember, the galaxies in OOlite are i...

I believe it's no longer available on the web, but even the breadbin can't go back in time and erase it from people's hard-drives. Sadly I never downloaded it as my browser objected strongly to the execrable website it was hosted on

A ship's cat perhaps? Going OT for a moment - is it possible to lose equipment in OOLite? I'm playing the windows alpha and haven't had anything blasted off me yet. I remember from the BBC original occasionally losing various bits of equipment and cargo when I took a pasting. Perhaps when your ship'...
