OK i'm a bit of an arty type here is my art gallery.

Playing Oolite/Elite again got me thinking, how would some of the ships look if say the game was made with 21st century graphics tech.

Heres my first two.

It's all work in progress. One day it will be available. Have patience.

BTW: It's not a very good idea to type something in the "Subject"-line of a reply. As you see in your above post it isn't displayed very prominently. Personally I almost missed it and thought "what weird guy writes '... on the Wiki oxp list' without a context?"

Subjects are only needed for opening a new thread. Then the first subject will become the headline of the thread. (Which, besides, also makes it a good idea to use a sensible subject when submitting a new thread.)

I'd like to see Elite remade using the X3 engine thats where my idea came from.

I'm redesigning the ships with modern thinking while trying to remain faithful to the old ships. You look at my pics and hopefully you think, yeah thats and asp/krait/cobra/whatever.

Glad people like. :)

Have a look at the Griff Krait, that IMO is the sort of design and detail I would like to see in all the ships.

And asteroids, planets, docking bays, cargo containers, escape pods etc.

I guess when 100gb ram is entry level..........., so in a couple of years........

Speaking of RAM… yesterday I set up a battle between 40 traders and 40 pirates (including Griff Kraits and Griff Rockets). Just for testing, you understand. Although the way iTunes played the Airwolf theme as I dove into the middle was quite nice.

Memory usage stayed stable: less than 200 MB ”real memory”, less than 1 GB “virtual memory” (which includes memory-mapped files, code that isn’t being used and such; for reference, Safari easily attains that sort of “virtual” usage). Oolite just doesn’t seem to be very leaky under OS X, which of course complicates the whole fixing-it issue.

---
Currently I’m using a JS console macro for this testing:

Code: Select all

:setM war system.legacy_addSystemShips("trader", 40, 1); system.legacy_addSystemShips("pirate", 40, 1); player.awardEquipment("EQ_FUEL_SCOOPS");
:war
Maybe I should make an Oolite Arena OXP. :-)

Amazing artwork RustiSwordz, real jaw dropping stuff! love the "Light fighter unfinished" concept, i reckon it would make either a fantastic police Viper or maybe one of the smaller pirate ships (mamba?) backed up by one of your transporter or cruiser concepts.

Lestradae, check out Ahrumans shady billboard oxp, there's some amazingly cool effects going on in that.

Ahruman, I like the fact that you just conjured up a battle and awarded yourself fuel scoops at the same time, very environmentally friendly of you making sure there's no cargo pods left behind making the place look untidy.

Well spotted. We must keep the spacelanes clean.

That aside, it gives the arena player an upgrade path (I do most of my testing as a new Jameson). If I did make an arena OXP, I’d probably raise Lave’s tech level too.
