Small gaps appear at certain points when I'm quite close up to the ship! am I doing something wrong or is it just part of the rendering process?
I'm still quite new to this modeling lark, so sorry if this is silly question.

Might be you have a double-surface problem there.
Oolite does not handle paralel surfaces close to each other very well.
Another possibility is that you have created a sloppy double vertex somewhere, these also create spontaneous planes in wings, causing all sorts of trouble. (Usually, you won't be able to UV-map or export to obj)

I tried to install your cool HUD, but it shows up in the middle of the screen, above the original one. I see that it works fine with you, so, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks AH, I'll have a closer look at the mesh again, it's more than likely a double vertex.
