Re: Dream Weapon (No, I'm not proposing another OXP here)
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, SandJ. LOL If it was actual spamming, like the Black monks do or like one gets in Communist systems (if you have the OXP installed, anyway), it would get old fast if overdone. Maybe if it was actually only when you were passing by a YAH billboard, it might not be t...

Re: (NEW RELEASE)(UPDATE)ShieldEqualizer+Capacitorv1.3.oxp
For the more difficult Random Hits, I go about it a bit differently. (I'm sure we all do.) As soon as the target is located, I'll go hard to port or starboard with injectors for a few seconds to make it a bit difficult for them to score a shot on me, then come around, target the main objective, and ...

Re: Dream Weapon (No, I'm not proposing another OXP here)
Many of the ideas here may seem a bit absurd or simply humour. But if one restricts ideas to only those which seem sensible at the moment, it can stifle creativity. Better to be silly sometimes than to be less creative than one can be, and who can tell what "serious" ideas may come from ex...

Re: Clearing Up a Debate Once and For All
I'd have to say that I do not agree that there is actually a contention between "uber" and "balance". Uberness is an extreme, and end of the scale. We don't usually name the other end of the scale in this sort of discussion, but for the sake of argument, I'm going to refer to it ...

Re: Dream Weapon (No, I'm not proposing another OXP here)
Then for another "non-lethal" measure, there's always Witherspoon's Thargoid Fakes. Life sized mylar balloons in the shape of Thargoid warships. Usually released in groups, a few seconds after being deployed, a small gas capsule inside inflates them to their full size, and a counterfeit Th...

Re: Dream Weapon (No, I'm not proposing another OXP here)
Actually, I was more inspired by this vid, from about 5:50 to 6:20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y4u8sWO1Kk ...But I certainly concede that the Laika Cannon is also a worthy concept. Simply brilliant. Another possibility yet would be the project "Codename: Monkey Bazooka". While it's nam...

Re: Interplanetary "Finances"
I do pretty much anything and everything short of the Black Monks or editing the savegame file. My non-pirate character keeps it to "anything legal", but that can include narcotics and firearms, so long as one isn't trying to leave a main station with them. To be honest, though, when I've ...

Re: Dream Weapon (No, I'm not proposing another OXP here)
Ubericity isn't really the question when considering "dream weapons" in a "No, these are not actually being proposed" sort of discussion. If they *were* being proposed, there is an entire section to the forum for things that a community member thinks *might* be a good enough idea...

Re: Dream Weapon (No, I'm not proposing another OXP here)
All practical considerations and restraints aside? I'd want Commander McLane's railgun but in multiple. A pair of the medium ones near the center of the ship, and a pair of heavy ones out a bit further, with separate triggers for the mediums and heavies. Rather like the .30 and .50 inch guns on the ...

Re: [RELEASE] Chopped Cobra
That is a seriously sweet looking Cobra. Nice specs, consistent/believable for a "chopper".
Ok, I'm going to have to try one of those. LOL

Re: To Newt or Oolute?
Bah, we don't need Newton. He's got plenty of other games he can be in, anyway. Reverse, well.. I don't feel a lot of need for reverse in the same sense as we have forward thrust. Maybe some sort of pushback where a button could nudge the ship back slightly, that could be neat. Mostly, we'd be wanti...

Re: Feature requests for Oolite 2.0
Well, the Torus isn't the only "player only" thing left. How about pause and save-games? NPCs don't have those either. I'm not saying that I actually think it would improve the game if it suddenly stopped dead for a random number of seconds or minutes every now and then to simulate an NPC ...

Re: Power failure during upgrade
Got it. I just needed to add a few lines to the /etc/modules file to get the system to load the gameport and stick at startup.
All shiny now. Everything is working fine.

Re: Power failure during upgrade
Making progress. It was pretty easy to get Natty to read USB based joystick, so I have my lower control panel back and can use a gamepad for flight controls. I'm not a gamepad sort of person for Oolite, but I must say it's not a bad controller choice for this game. I hadn't expected the precision to...
