For a Space game

Oolite is the best adaptable space game ever. For Players and Writers over years. Well for a space game isn't it a bitty too seeriouus? Noo a days? You have a ship with bricks in you pockets and try. That was fun. Ar*e wips make it harder instead of fun. OOPS. All you proggers for this space game.. ...

OS and Connections

Thanks. There's such much malware these days that I wonder whether, on Windows, I should go back to running more than minimal real-time protection (aside from various browser addOns, that I do have). I might even need something (aside from the aforementioned addOns, together with security patches a...

Re: A question for Elite 1984 experts

This is an Oolite thing. I played the first Elite thoroughly. May have missed quite a few things, but don't remember a system out of reach. That would have been a total waste of very limited memory.

Re: Migrating icons

I do use nvidia drivers. but haven't updated in a while. Only 2 icons seem to have 'itchy feet' and always to the same place. Also my calendar tends to think my screen is 4:3 ratio on occasion. Maybe an update of the graphic driver should be thought about. In my experience upgrades tend to introduce...

Migrating icons

This is nothing but a ??. There are a few icons on my desk top, that on start up occasionally migrate. Always to the same place. Running windoze 7. Ye I hear yous all chuckling from here. I got the pro version on disc for $0.00. Great buy. And if you don't allow it to update. It runs smoothly. Just ...

For Jamisons and oldies alike

Right kiddies; Ask you grandies "What is a space hopper? and how many colours did it come in?" Then ask "What is a 'fad'? " Elite and it's off spring. Not a 'fad' but rapidly became a platform commercial game. Oolite and it's 'up' grades. Not a fad. AND still free for the price o...

Re: Which weapon is best ?

Tried the rail gun, thinking 'Wild west shoot out in space'. Not for me. Like the colt 45 of it's time. Useless at over 30 feet. Accuracy was dismal. Confirmed kill at over 13km. I disabled my lasers, which tends to hasten the learning experience! 13km WOW! With that ol thing? Double WOW. Still bet...

Re: Which weapon is best ?

Hello steen, Welcome to the only forum where 'the only stupid question is the one not asked'. Don't know who said that. but it stuck. The best weapon. Mmm, Easy, the one that works for you. I'm a bitty old school and don't add all the weapon extras. So the Military laser is top gun for me. Tried the...

Re: Question about trading

Thing is though I'm not stopping to fight. If you just fly a corkscrew path to the planet the ships can't hit you often enough to destroy you. ( Joystick needed really for this ) This certainly helps a lot, but I have the impression that with the Skilled NPCs OXP this tactic is far less effective. ...

Re: How Does Avoiding the Spacelanes Break Gameplay?

Re: How Does Avoiding the Spacelanes Break Gameplay? It doesn't. What changed game play was too many fingers playing in the core game. Try to get an older version, before 1.80 (76 being my favorite) Game is great and your only real worry is the oxp/oxz's you add. I play 1.80 A lot, as there were som...

Re: Question about trading

If you just fly a corkscrew path to the planet... Yes, but when you get there you're so dizzy you can't walk in a straight line and instead accidentally walk out the wrong end of the hanger bay. You can't get dizzy. your down and direction are the same in flight. It's all they poor beings on the pl...

Re: Doctor Who again

Non native speaker? He's Scottish and speaks proper England. Better than most English with their accents. Back in the 70's there was a survey to see who spoke the most correct English. Ayrshire, West coast of Scotland. Who'd have thought? Still makes me smile. I have a Glesga accent. Even after many...

Re: Doctor Who

The Doctor has a daughter. Have yous forgotten that episode? She regenerated on the last scene. And stole a time ship. Now she has a mum instead of a dad time lord parent. How funny can that be?
