FMV and cutscenes - that's the other thing. I don't want to play as Kayron Jarvis or Julian Brennan or Edison Trent or whoever - I want to be dropped into the universe with a modest ship and a fistful of credits and make my way from there. (I know you can opt out of the storyline in some games, but ...

Hi Sabreman, so how does Oolite shape up then? :D It's great, of course  I find that there's a fine line between me really enjoying a space trading/combat game and really not getting on with it at all. Elite is close to perfection but it does lack a little in terms of depth and features that ...

I tried the demo of Spaceforce, which I've been following for a long time. My PC pretty much died though. I always end up disappointed in the new breed of Elite clones. Darkstar One had my expectations up but that never quite clicked either. I do like Space Rangers though (apart from the text advent...

Escape Velocity Nova does a lovely job of a 2D Elite-like game. More arcadey and light but tons of fun.

Yeah, for me the DC is all about saving time. I've done enough manual docking in Elite to last a lifetime (though I still smash into the station every now and then. It seems that practise most certainly doesn't make perfect  ). I'm using a 360 pad to play this, and even with the damping on it's...

Brit here too, from Nottingham :) Raised on Speccy Elite, refined on the Amiga version, then lost in the wilderness for years before rediscovering the genre recently with things like Freelancer and the X games. The New Kind always had a pretty permanent spot on my HD though. The funny thing is, in l...

Incredibly minor suggestion...

Hi, I've just started playing this properly (long-time Elite fan from the Speccy days, still one of the two or three best games I've ever played). I was wondering if there was any way to change the colours of the background stars... more specifically not having any green ones. It just looks weird! T...
