Thanks DH and AC. It makes perfect sense.

Good job we've got the Advanced Navigation system, eh? Travelling through witchspace ain't like dustin' crops, boy!

I'm sometimes amazed at the (game)time difference between the two routes - shortest v quickest.

I must be mistunderstanding the physics of Witchspace drives.

Any ideas why a 7LY jump takes more time than two 3.5LY jumps?

Thanks - I'll try a forced mis-jump with care then. :)

BTW - I think adding the Galactic Navy OXP adds lots of opportunity to increase the kill count.

There's also the Thargoids you can fight by intentionally doing a bad jump.
How do you intentionally do a bad jump?

I've yet to experience one...
...in Oolite, at least. I remember being completely shafted by a mis-jump when playing Elite on the Atari ST.

Thank you all.

Looking forward to some Furball action! But will have to wait for the trusty laptop to recharge as I killed the battery last night doing a corner to corner passenger run.

Anybody got an alternative location for the Furball OXP?

The link in the Wiki is not working...

I guess twin forward lasers are both impossible in code and also a tad game breaking in terms of bias towards the player. Obviously, the cooling systems would not be able to cope. How about some sort of tractor beam? Not sure what use it would be - except for pod/asteroid scooping. What about a ship...

Hi JazHaz, Why's that then? Does it mess up the file?

BTW Notepad++ is a damn fine app.

That's real interesting, Smivs. I've just started, timidly, to create a new ship oxp and this'll help get my model dimensions a bit more realistic (in Oolite terms). My first attempt was a bit on the, erm, small side. The engine exhaust cone was larger than the ship itself! Still, incoming mis...

Do you remember the funny red plastic 'lens' thing you needed to hold up to the screen to unlock the game?

My friend and I were nearly reduced to tears after waiting 10 mins for the speccy to load it only to misread the code.

Glad Oolite doesn't replicate that.

Happy days.

It's great how the game evolves the longer you play it... First, it's a case of patience and strategic decisions as you find your own way to play. Slowly building cash while you try to stay out of trouble. Then, it's 'Pimp my ride' with any spare cash. Before you know it, your priorities have change...

Mr Thargoid - You, sir, are a credit to the Ooniverse.

May your cargo hold remain trumble free.

Hi Commander McLane,

Thanks for the info and I appreciate the warning regarding needing to understand to understand.

I'm keen to get into the OXP writing thing. I just need some time to pick thru some of the existing ones to see how it fits together...
