During my last Oolite addiction period about 4 years ago, I eventually hit on a great little ship. Shaped like a needle (tiny profile, very hard to hit), something like 8 missile slots, don't remember how much cargo, and fast & maneuverable. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Is it an OXP ship? ...

Because no one else has has said it yet, I'll say it: This is an excellent oxp. Especially if your ambient lighting is low, those floating cargoes are pain to spot without it. The only glitches I have seen are some rare flashers without a cargo box. Maybe it was destroyed or scooped and the flasher...

How often elusive big contracts come up also depends on which Oolite version you're running. A major change was done in v1.77 that may make them slightly more likely but far more costly to start. Just slogged my way to top cargo rating in a python (so sloooow), and....still don't see any of the big...

How does one get a drop-tank? Drop tanks are an OXP solution, as are extra internal fuel tanks - the gal-drive solution is good, in extremis , but costs a lot of cash. Keep your ship regularly maintained, and the risk of a mis-jump is lessened - unless you deliberately mis-jump, looking for trouble...
