Griff's OXPs problem + weird suggestion

Post by Commander Learner »

Hello commanders!

Just laid my hands on 1.77.1, and I just wanna say "fantastic work guys!" :D

Anyway, I suddenly had a fetish for the old Cobra Mk III's texture and tried downloading Griff's ArcElite OXP from Box but to no avail. :( Some of Griff's other downloads couldn't be downloaded too. Help, someone? :P

Oh and about the suggestion:
I just completed the Constrictor Hunt and thought it would be awesome if there were "event-triggered" music in Oolite!
Eg : Soothing music when condition is green, dramatic music when condition is red, epic music when you de-hyperspace into a Thargoid fleet etc

Thanks in advance, and keep up the good work guys! So proud of you.... <sniffs>

You could always whistle!
"You know how to whistle, don't you? You just put your lips together and blow."

Has been requested before, but it's still a great request.

Common Sense OTB did quite a lot of work on this, and reportedly got it working quite well.. only problem is, a lot of the music he'd picked had various copyright encumbrances. In discussing it with him, it seems that finding suitable unencumbered replacement music would be a major project in its' own right, which unfortunately he doesn't have time for. (for that matter, he's been too busy to even pop in here for quite a long time now)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Then it's up to the users to come up with the tunes suitable for various alert states and other events.
But poor placeholders could be put in so we know what filenames to use.

Maybe we could crowdfund one of our talented musicians, e.g. pagroove, to compose situational music that is coherent? Something like an Oolite community kickstarter 8)

Haha yeah, tried that myself. Gets disrupted whenever someone attacks you though. :p

Back in August last year, I PMd him to suggest that very idea, that he release the bare-bones framework so that the community could come up with music for it.. that PM is still in my outbox, unread.
