Well the smoke fumes where in the middle of the texture and not on a border. Probably this is because there are also normal clouds. I fixed it a bit so that it looks better now.
It doesn't matter where the fumes were. Or to be precise: middle is as bad as border. Oolite's wrapping-textures-around-planets mechanism really sucks. It is very rough and not at all fine-tuned or subtle.
You can check it by creating a simple grid-like black and white texture and using it. You will see how odd the straight lines are not only bent, but almost broken. I think from the grid you can figure out in which parts of the texture the worst breaks are located, and then avoid these parts for delicate structures.

I know. But atm it looks fine to me. Though I fixed the flumes a bit after your remark so it is appreciated
Really minor quibble.. but shouldn't it be "Gorilla suit"?
I assumed a Guerrilla suit was in cammo and covered in artillery belts and stuff
So did I, then I clicked on the link!
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Oolite with Descent looks. Krait traversing the docking corridor of a Hacker Outpost from Anarchies. The lights are actually travelling the length of the corridor, creating a very nice effect that unfortunately cannot be captured in a shot:
