Can not mount lasers?

Hi, my first post, new commander, n00b etc.
Apologies if my question is completely stupid or I have missed something fundamental.

Version: 1.73
Installed OXPs: Realistic Shipyards, System Redux
System: Core2Duo 1.6ghz, 2gb ram, Go7300

I have enough cash, but seem to be unable to mount any lasers. I can buy other equipment fine.
When I choose a laser in "Ship Outfitting" and press return, time adjusts by 10 minutes, the cursor returns to the top of the list and the basic menu sound "pluk" happens. However, the laser is not mounted.
Obviously this is stopping me move on from basic cargo runs to hunting baddies. Now I have *ahem* altered the save file so I have a military laser up front, but would like to mount another laser on aft.
All help from more experienced pilots welcome.

As this is my first post, i would just like to say what an amazing game this is so far, and give my thanks to the programmers. I am an old player of space sims [Elite, FOFT, Warhead etc] so seeing such a beautiful galaxy and reliving old space adventures is great fun and nostalgia.
If anyone has any recommendations of any pretty or essential OXPs I would be grateful as well.

For a temporary fix you can use an older oolite version for buying the lasers and than continue playing 1.73

That is a known bug. We're all waiting for 1.73.1

In the meantime you can use some text editor and edit the savegame.

look for

Code: Select all

<key>forward_weapon</key>

and change the

Code: Select all

<integer>whatever it is</integer>

to

Code: Select all

<integer>5</integer>

5 is for military laser

.. and you can deduct 6000 Cr (ya, right)

Now I see many posts relating to my issue, at least it wasn't me.

Is it possible to roll back to the previous working version and use my save file?
I'd hate to lose the 7 hours I've put in so far.

And I already figured out how to mount the military laser, just not how to deduct the credits......

Target Reticle and Target Autolock are very handy, as is an alternative HUD.

I started to list some out, and realized I was listing probably 7 out of every 10 on that list... Definitely look at any/all of the ship OXP's by Griff; most anything by Thargoid; Random Hits is a must have; Most of the "flavor" OXPs like Commies, Anarchies, Dictatorships, the upcoming Feudals; the Neolite ships by SimonB; Famous Planets 1 & 2; Your Ad Here is great for flavor and an occasional spot of off-beat humor. There's just SOOOO many.

It depends on if you're looking for ships, missions, scenery, flavor, or just an Argheellian Love Slave in a gorilla suit. Named "Qalskune". (-une being the masculine form of -okw)

I only hope I can keep resisting making poor taste jokes about Argheellians and damaged wormholes.

Now I've also discoved pocket pc elite.
