Expanding on the "kit" idea: The Orion (or any other "kit" ship) could even be displayed on the shipyard as a kit, not a ready made ship. And you would have to have a Cobra III in order to buy it, because it couldn't be fitted on any other ship. So if you came with another ship, you would have to trade it in for a Cobbie first. Or you would have to take a more expensive offer, where the Cobra is included with the kit-fitting.

Probably not so easily scriptable, though.

Size of the Enterprise is a nice thing. There are seven starships called "Enterprise"; 1 NX, 2 Constitution, 1Excelsior, 1 Ambassador, 1 Galaxy (Pfui Deibl!), and 1 Sovereign.
Sovereign is 685 metres long, almost 700.

The only Enterprise to reach 700 meters in length is this piece of junk that makes me wanna kill Abrams from the new Movie.
And that's NO Enterprise, like the movie is NOT, repeat, NOT Star Trek. Period.

Sovereign is almost 700, 680 to be exact. Anyway, the NeoEnt is questionable...some screens seem like it is damn long (shipyard scene), some suggest same size as original Constitution, the saucer seem to have same number decks as original, also if I recall correctly there was a shuttle docking or undocking in one scene that suggested same dimensions as original.

But, for this discussion there are other forums. Enough of that OT.

I'm not a geek, anyway, so I don't have reference material with the sizes of all ST-ships at hand. I just seemed to remember that in one of the series a length of approximately 700 meters was mentioned. But it could also be that this was from the TNG episode where Dr Crusher is stuck in a shrinking warp bubble, and at some point the ship's computer informs her that the universe is an entity with a diameter of 700 meters. As this is roughly the point where the collapsing warp bubble starts crushing the ship, I arrived at the conclusion about the ship's length, only using my deductive abilities.

Anyway, as far as Oolite is concerned, "roughly 700 meters" (even if it's actually only 500) is in a completely different league than "roughly 100 meters". Because the first one means "huge ship which isn't meant for the Ooniverse anyway", while the second one means "could easily be a member of the original ship set". And only this was my point.

There is some confusion over the actual size of the new Enterprise - some say that it is comparable with the Enterprise D and some say that it is just a little over the size of the Enterprise A - this latter claim is backed up by a statement Abrams made saying that he wanted the design to reflect a hybrid of the original two Enterprise designs. The following image highlights it:

Comparison chart

However, there are photos/images out there that back up the first view too.

Anyway - we Ooliteers have no right to comment on scale - exactly how big is a Cobra Mk III anyone? ;-)

Jagen: noted that you hate the new Enterprise. Let it go, man! That way lie ulcers. I hate the entire Star Trek: Enterprise series/idea from top to bottom (from the very concept to the actors involved). I haven't yelled about it though. :-)

Anyway. More discussion about Sci Fi Museum please. I like my idea and I feel that it needs much more attention! ;-)

I love the Space Museum idea - and basing it on the TOGY is a fab idea - plus loads and loads of Shady Advertising hoardings from YAH to capitalise on the throughout of tourists....

I agree with the museum.
And like I said, I just need somebody to make the shipdatas and the museum script, and I'll provide the ships.
But this scripting is way over my head.

Deal! I'll do it.

And I'll get my own personal Orion for it. Please!

The orion just needs this flat disks in the middle, then I'm finished.
If only I'd get around to do it.

Alright, Orion model is complete, just needs a texture.
But seeing that the original was just different greys, I should be able to do it.
Seeing that Oosat2 doesn't seem to be the site of choice anymore, where (and how) should I upload stuff?

I've had a box account for some time - I've never uploaded successfully anything larger than 10MB
