Deep Space Hud

Post by punkbohemian »

I've been trying to get the Deep Space Hud to work, but it's acting wonky. The bars show up, but not the textures for the "dashboard". Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it? I'd really like to get this HUD working, I especially like how it makes the scanner look 3d. :)

Works fine for me - using Nvidia graphics card and 1.73 trunk

presumably you've done the holding down the shift key when loading Oolite?

Ha!

I just fixed it.

I'm running Linux/Ubuntu. Who knew it could be so (case-) sensitive? In the oxp images folder, the part of the hud that wasn't showing is the BASE.png file. However, if you look at the hud.plist file, it refers to the image as base.png. The filename being all in caps kinda set off my spidey sense, but I didn't figure it out until I started poking around the plist file.

This is how Oolite sucks you in, isn't it. You get one cool oxp that needs a little tweaking, and once you do that you think you can conquer the world and then start making oxps of your own. Yeah, Oolite, I'm so onto you. :P

Well, we'll see. I currently have a serious grip thread going in the discussion forum. It'll take some hardcore oxp-ing to make me really happy. :?

Out of curiosity, what OXPs do you currently have installed?

I just started adding oxps yesterday. I had been playing vanilla Oolite for a little more than a week and I already felt the need to spice it up. I have:

Deep Space Hud (obviously :P)
Aegidian Special (a couple extra ships)
Asteroid Storm
Black Baron
Commies
some custom sounds (by Giles Williams)
Ionics
Local Hero
The Long Way Around
some new ships (Naga, Ringhals, Hamadryad, etc.)
Python Class Cruiser
Random Hits
Sung's Textures
Super Cobra
System Redux
Terrapin
Thargoid Wars
Tiger (ship)
UPS Courier
Vector

That's a good start.. might I also suggest:

Bounty Scanner
Captured Thargons
Energy Equipment
Fuel Tank
Fuel Station
Hired Guns
Military Missile
Missiles and Bombs
Missile Analyser
Probe
Target Autolock
Advanced Targeting Reticule

Most of these are aimed towards combat enhancement, and some, in particular target autolock, will make a big difference when dealing with the long-range invisible ships that are giving you grief at the moment.

For the Advanced Targeting Reticle see https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?t=4935 and https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?t=5234

Once Missiles and Bombs goes in, you will find the bad guys throwing them at you as well, so the Anti-Missile System is something you may want to add to your shopping list also!

Oh, yes. Throw in Galactic Navy and Random hits as well. They offer a good series of missions. There's a few others I would suggest, but it's the wrong end of the morning and I'm not in a mood to try and remember right now.

If your system can handle shaders I advise getting some eye-candy OXPs to bring your copy of Oolite into the 21st century. Neolite is awesome, I have this OXP and I really like the redesigned ships, especially the Megaships!

Griff has also been remodelling ships so definitely get your hands on those, as well as the updated constores for YAH - you have too see to believe...

You may want to update or patch your Aquatics from 2.00 to 2.02. There's a couple of small bugs in 2.00 which would merit attention. See the OXP's thread for links to both (the patch file is only a few kB).

What/where is neolite? I don't see it on the wiki.
