Tridend Down 1.0 Dead End at Leisera

Post by Spacetrader »

Hi,

I'm playing TD on 1.72 and have reached Leisera where I met someone at the shipyard who want's to give me the position of the hidden testing area for my space compass. After that there is a message in my manifest that I'll have to confront the design-bureau with the missing Alkrab, but no more! There is no mark at the galaxymap or another information. I've travelled around in the systems of the neighbourhood, but there were no more infos.
How does the mission go on???

Don't worry, you're very close. The message at Leisera said:

'Here, input these co-ordinates into your advanced space compass and you'll be given a heading to the test facility.'

In Leisera, cycle through the beacons on the compass until you find a K - that is the test facility.

On my system, for some reason, Trident Down no longer works since I installed 1.72 :(

The game doesn`t even start up with it in.

Would like to continue it, though :?:

:(

I had a quick try at installing 1.72 last night on my mac but didn't have much luck. I'll try again and this time will remove the OXPs and look for any useful error logs that identify any problems with Trident Down. Lestradae - I think you're on windows, aren't you - do you have any error log info that woudl help to fix this?

I have the same problem (also under Windows, XP in my case) and there is nothing in the log. The game just dumps out to desktop, and doesn't write anything useful in the logs. It just stops at the point of setting up the scripts.

Hi Ramirez,

thanks for your reply :)

Same results as with Thargoid here. I have Windows Vista as OS. If I put only Trident Down into the AddOns folder, the game won`t even start up, but doesn`t show me any errors in the log.

Some massively deprecated command or somesuch? :?

Puzzled :?:

Well, there is this:

Code: Select all

[shipData.merge.failed]: ***** ERROR: one or more shipdata.plist entries have like_ship references that cannot be resolved: ("abandoned-alkrab")

Should be a starting point.

A-ha ... wasn`t there talk that the 1.72 Oolite resolved multiple "like_ship" references by throwing them out?

Could that be it?

Hi Ramirez,

I've found the hidden facility, but there was no information at the ASC, I saw an other station and after identifying I docked. Thank you for the help...

btw

Hello Thargoid!
Nice to read you again, you have helped me at my start of Oolite two months ago with my display

I wouldn't think a broken like_ship could cause a crash, but I can certainly see if I can fix it and see if that re-enables the OXP. Odd that this error only shows up after the 1.72 update though, it's the same OXP install that ran happily under 1.71.2.

It's trying to like_ship to an entity called "krab" which doesn't exist anywhere.

Ramirez - can you comment as to what/where that should be, is it a relied-on OXP that's missing somewhere?

And alien salutations Spacetrader ;)

This is a significant bug in the new ship setup code. Specifically, there is an infinite loop if all of the ships with a given role have conditions that fail. (There were actually two separate bugs having this effect, one of them already fixed.) Fixed for 1.72.1.

The krab-doesn’t-exist error is valid, though. :-)

Whoops! I added a placeholder in the shipdata for 'abandoned-alkrab' based on a 'krab' entity which I had in a separate OXP - in the end I never actually made use of it but forgot to delete the entry.

None of the Trident Down script calls for this ship's appearance though. Is 1.72 automatically checking that any like_ship entries in any shipdata are resolved?

Spacetrader - I do apologise, I've just looked at the technical details again and the Korshkov station doesn't have a beacon after all. (Last night I may have been looking at my own doctored version of the OXP). I shall add this to my list of things to fix along with any other bits and pieces for compatability with 1.72. Generally speaking, this OXP will make a lot of use of the ASC and most of the harder-to-find objects have been given a beacon to prevent people getting stuck too much.

Hello Ramirez,

nothing to apologize, I know these things very well (but in Excel  ). What I want to say is that missions like TD are the spice of Oolite and I wish to thank every writer of missions (and especially you) for their work. Minor bugs re not to prevent at all and if there is fast help available it's not so bad.

Yes. All like_ship entries are resolved at rebuilding-the-cache time, and invalid ships are rejected.

By the time of the freeze, the krab is not involved in any way. Rather, it’s failing to spawn a buoy, because of the janes-ad entry; it’s trying to roll a one-in-50-millionish chance on a crummy 16-bit random number generator, which never succeeds. This shouldn’t be a problem because the entry is removed from the set of ships being considered on the first attempt, but the bug made it keep looking at the full set of ships and thus always seeing janes-ad with a weight of 100 million.

This great big probability weight also exposed a bug in the underlying “probability set” object, which was getting confused about the sum of the weights due to precision issues, but this has been fixed.

For some reason I threw in a load of zeros for the janes-ad when only a few were necessary. I've used 10000 for the other ad boards but I can choose a lower number if that's more efficient.

Had another play around and it turns out that I have installed 1.72 successfully after all! I really should check these things before posting!

I've removed the bits of redundant code and done some other minor cleanups to create a v1.1 to be going on with - you can get it here. At the moment I'm not seeing any other errors, though I have spotted some minor typos in the briefing text that I'll correct when I've got a moment.
