such arrangement would be a real problem for slower computers...I'd prefer about a dozen or so systems, just a little galaxy of its own.

one of the other similar games i really liked, was Hardwar. this would work online, as you were confined to one moon, but there was plenty to do and explore (for that time, nowadays i reckon the play area would be about 5x as big at least). seems to be a bit of a forgotten game, which is a shame.

I also think that Oolite must stay Oolite but it is tempting to do a multiplayer version in a little universe. For example a bunch of planets within the 7 lightyear range. I also think that with 8 X 256 planets you rarely meet someone unless Oolite gets as many players as WOW 8) 8)
