Shooting myself!? Clone ship? WTF?!

I was happily plowing through some nasty pirates, when I lined my sites up on a MkIII. Hey, pretty colors I thought. Then I started shooting it, and every time I hit it, I heard an extra sound like someone was shooting me. After my shields were down and my equipment was taking damage, I figured out that I was shooting my own ship! Somehow the pirate ship got linked to my ship, so that every time I hit it *I* took damage.

Has anyone else encountered this?

The only thing I've changed recently is installed long_way_around, and started the mission

hmm i have a faint memory of my system locking on to a target without the green reticle...

can´t recall if i shot at it though...

yes the targetting system did not provide the square corners when this happened.
