There's always one isn't there. You have a serious conversation about a hurricane and someone has to mention curry
I my circle, mentioning hurricanes makes people twitch and wish for bigger storm anchors...
It's obviously a cultural thing!
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.
I wouldn't like to live on a planet where every now and then a meteor falls with the energy of a nuclear warhead - then again, I wouldn't like to live by an active volcano or tectonic fault either...

Excellent, you guys are doing great work. So now as well as admiring all the ads on the nav beacons, I've got to go for a trip round the planet as well to satiate my Oolite voyeurism.
The Grey Haired Commander has spoken!
OK so I'm a PC user - "you know whats scary? Out of billions of sperm I was the fastest"
In the future would the engine support a layer of transparency around the planet so the clouds could actually be offset from the planets surface and move independently? Or how about bump mapping for mountains and the like so that sunlight casts shadows and adds additional textural detail?
I'm not slighting in the least the fantastic work done - I'm genuinely curious to know if this is it or whether further leaps in "wow" factor will be forthcoming.
Such an engine would be awesome, however the effects should not be as strong as for example the bump mapping in Ad Astra and certainly not as Spore. But it requires a whole new planet engine I think.

I think if anything, there will be implemented "normal maps" which are like bump maps, however only way better...
bump maps can only look so good as long as they dont have to stick out to much. to much and it looks odd..
normal maps can be "extruded" way beyond that limit...
