Have you looked at the camouflage in Xelite bottom left it's not a brilliant picture but an idea of what can be done.Selezen wrote:The camo skin is just too cowie. Multiple layer camouflage is probably better, but as mentioned the best camo colour for space is black, hence the black detail.

@Selezen - I agree, the Camo idea is cool, especially if you add Military-style flashes and logos: 112th 'Starstriker' Sqdn. 'Death is our speciality.'
13th 'Unlucky Jacks' Sqdn. 'Live by the laser, Die by the thousands.'

my attempt, a starting point perhaps?? (could adjust the hues if you wanna keep the snake colours, but this was purely an attempt at a "realistic" technocamo.)

no like the Thargo.
My idea of thargoids is not that they are alien in technological terms, just alien in psychology.
(alien physiology is a moot issue, as many members of Galcoop are in fact alien in that respect. You bigot)
I always imagine Thargoid ships blocky and with lots of edges...almost like slate. but red / green.
Feel free to do what you want with them, just be aware I'll try to undo your work.
Edit: Get back in form you selezen! I want that facet of you that made those first ships.

But that would mean that the Thargoid ships would use the exact same design philosophy as the normal ships. I'm going for a look that is different to the GalCop ships and more 'aged' with a hint of the organic about it.Arexack_Heretic wrote:I always imagine Thargoid ships blocky and with lots of edges...almost like slate. but red / green.

Meh. Potayto, potahto.
P.S. Thanks for the textures. That first one is pretty much exactly what I was trying to go for. Unfortunately the presence of the lines on the texture makes it look a bit rubbish. I shall remove them and see what they look like. Mind if I add some windows to it?

Here's wolfie boy's first camo texture ona ship. Looks nice!
The other one looks damn hot too. It's my personal favourite of the two:
I can't remember what Sung's Thargoid looks like... I'll do an alternative skin for the Thargoid, but as always if anyone has any other ideas, please give them a try. There's a blank template here.

heh, cool! i just did the jaguar one as a joke too, from McLane's comment
someone coould probably dirty them up a bit - i tried putting scratches on the camo one but the greys tended to just blend in, which is why i did the blast scorching in browns, just for difference.
that model kicks ar$e mind, definitely want it when it gets OXP'd.
Re the Thargs, i've always imagined the ships would be like insects themselves, chitin-type armour : ie, smooth, glossy, very very tough (a hard kill even w/ no shields, far tougher then metal, pound-for-pound), and w/ maybe a shimmery look to them.

Love that second Asp - very nice effect!
Yep, I'm with wolfie on that Tharg texture - a 'ceramic' approach a la chitinous armour - the joins between the angular panels should be just slightly smoothed to indicate it's just a preferred shaping of a singular 'moulding', not seperate panels welded together...

Very funny, Scotty, now beam down my clothes...
