Now. My save games (despite lack of hyperspace jumping) seem to be twice the size of yours. When I open one using SubEthaEdit, there is a lot of unreadable gobbledegook which yours lacks. Might that be the issue?

Unfortunately i myself do not live in the uk and i do not know everything about it. I figured along the process that converting data in form of some kind of code into what appears to be a binary sort of resembles what i understand as compiling. Anyhow, what happened here so far is:
the idia arose due to the missing multiplayer-option in oolite. I considered swapping a savegame over the oolite-board from pilot to pilot, each one adding one hyperspace jump and some actions like trade, equipment, sign contracts etc etc and commenting it in a post in this thread.
Due to practical issues it seems more reasonable to start with elite-plus savegames as they are way more compact. Scince it seems to be impossible to attatch files over the oolite bulletin board directly, i figured it would be a way to read out the savegame-data with a proper Hex-Editor (link above), post it here in raw hexadecimal numbers (and that one column wich i didnt figure out what it is yet). The next pilot can pick up the code, paste it into a local hex editor, revert the code into a *.CDR file with the proper name, put it in their elite-plus-folder and proceed the story by jumping to the next star.
So far i took off from Lave, bought 2t of liqor and transported it to Leesti. It wasn't the smartest move but you gotta start somewhere.
Edit: you do not actually have to understand hexadecimal coding in any way. It's only copy and paste. The fact that you will see a lot of hex numbers in this thread if the idea takes off, is a simple neccessity, but it doesn't really concern the players more than copy and paste. It comes with the advantage that in theory you can rule out file corruption to some degree.

Here's an alternative suggestion: Strict Version Oolite. I just tried pasting an old save-file into a post here, and it worked just fine. And, my poor little brain can manage Oolite... honestly!! Even the strict version (how will I ever cope without SniperLock?). And the strict version is actually much more sophisticated than the older versions of Elite (reputations/NPC interactions and all that).
I'm starting up a new Jameson now and we'll see how it goes.

He's now got front and rear beams and several other goodies. No kills. Docked at Qutiri and refueled. 2,939₢ to spend on cargo and more equipment. Enjoy!!

Anyhow, my next strategy would be picking up the Parcel from Quitri to Usrarema (and maybe once again look over the asteroids along the way). Yet i tried serveral times but the game freezes in the corridor, i will have to look for a more stable environment (and some more time). Furthermore i approve the practise of sharing oolite-save-contents over the board and probably migrate the idea from the suggestion box to a more suitable forum if there are no objections

Yes! Of course. Some years ago i played a lot of 'plain' Oolite scince i didn't know about the extensions. I remember the comfort of targeting systems and the vivid conversations at bars once i upgraded, yet i still got myself some decent equipment and one or two missions until then. That is a lot of insight to me - i didn't know there was a rock hermit at Isinor - where is that system anyway? Furthermore i approve the practise of sharing oolite-save-contents over the board and probably migrate the idea from the suggestion box to a more suitable forum if there are no objections

Rock Hermits
1) there is one rock hermit (possibly more) in every solar system in the vanilla game. Usually surrounded by asteroids. And often just off one of the three space lanes.
2) They come in three different flavours - mining hermits (mostly in safer systems), neutral and dangerous pirate coves (mostly in nastier systems).
3) They have cheap minerals, radioactives and gold/platinum/gems - and pay well for wine/liquors. But smallish quantities only. Neutral hermits will have some smugglers goods too. Pirate coves have more - and pirates, too!
4) There are a plethora of OXPs tweaking all of the above.
