well barbara windsor was a joke.. the well endowed blond from the carry on movies..

but your clues seem to point to Barbara Wright , companion of Dr Who. 6 episode of the second series is called "The Crusade"

You're close enough - the book is Doctor Who and the Crusaders by David Whittacker, which was based on The Crusade. I can't honestly remember if this line was in the show. Barbara was kidnapped by El Akir, some sort of courtier to Saladin, played by an actor who was also a menacing Aztec in the Aztec episodes, and had lots of other roles:

OK, since it seems to have gone a bit quiet I did a search.

Are we talking about Murphy K-9, a black and white robotic dog that looks vaguely like an Alsatian in the Japanese anime Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, part of the Power Rangers thing, with the ability to transform into a bazooka?

Answers
1) Battlestar Galactica (the original series)
2) A Daggit as they called it, basically a dog, needed as no Daggits had been saved when the Cylons destroyed the 12 colonies and every boy needs a Daggit (see next answer).
3) Muffit was its name and it was owned by Boxey, Apollo's adopted son after he marries Jane Seymour's character Serina and therefore grandson of Adama, Captain of the Galactica.

Additional Stuff
1) Jane Seymour wanted nothing to do with an ongoing series at the time so her character was killed off in the 3rd episode.
2) In the revised series, Galactica 1980, Boxey grows up to become Captain Troy, Adama's replacement as head of the fleet and Captain of the Galactica.
3) The Daggit suit was run internally by a chimpanzee named Evie being that the series could not afford the expense of the early C.G.I. that were around at the time.

Most of the above was Goggled to refresh my fading memories. The original Batlestar Galactica series holds a special place for me. Was just starting my Higher Education at the time it was first aired on the tube with the intent of becoming a bit of a writer. Submitted several script concepts to the show for consideration as episodes but since there was no way for me to know ahead of time in what direction they were headed with the series they were all rejected. Still the correspondence with those running the show was encouraging and surprising pleasant. Not what one would normally expect in the face of rejection or, as would later be learned, what one usually gets from Hollywood types.
