True - nothing happening here that would cause a crash - just some unpredictable ship launches and the log messages.

Re: Iron Ass OXP
I've been away from Oolite for a couple of years and it's nice to see it's still going and I'm back playing it. Had to update a lot of mods and add some additional ones. I'm 52 now and I remember ELITE back on the BBC and then in colour on my Commodore 64, Amiga 500 but I have to say Old Murgh I love your Colourless, all darkened ships. I have Oolite 1.90 running with all of your ships with compatible mods and I have Trunk 1.91 running Griffs ships with likewise mods. So keep them coming mate.Old Murgh wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 8:31 pmIt's *slightly* old hat, but so am I. I have been toying with making my ideal retro core shipset version. Colourless, all darkened metal, with big obvious name signs for the ships. Uniform even. Dystopic and Soviet-like. Except I do like the Smivs flashers..
I had forgotten how pleasant I used to think it was to tinker with models and textures, so it has been enjoyable. I had also forgotten the agonies of managing the pLists, but I think it's all in there.
Also I can't thank everyone enough for the work you all put into your mods and scripts because playing Oolite reminds me so much being back in my bedroom with a huge and very heavy crappy looking CRT TV playing ELITE.
Cheers everyone

Thank you for your warm comment. It’s wonderful to read that it strikes a chord with a fellow seasoned player. I think you put your finger on the core of the nostalgia that many of us cling onto.NorthenderPNE wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 7:55 amI've been away from Oolite for a couple of years and it's nice to see it's still going and I'm back playing it. I hope to have a playable ironass version of missionaries.oxp in not too long, so hopefully you will feel similar about that.
I also have to say that’s a great solution to keeping one foot with the old and one with the new. Cheers.

You're welcome mate, and as for missionaries I look forward to it along with phkb and his hermitage 0.86 mod for example. What you lot are pumping out is awesome and I enjoy just sitting back with a cup of tea cruising the space lane at a measly 280 errr mph. Couldn't remember the speed terminology in Oolite so mph it is, it's the brain freeze you get once over 50.Old Murgh wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 11:49 amThank you for your warm comment. Again cheers guys and gals if any, and any other Oolite species playing.

I've been testing myself groggy with the Iron Ass Missionaries beta 1 so maybe some fresh eyes can see and judge more clearly. I can't find any more big bugs anyway, and I think it makes some funny things happen.

Isn't that a rather small unit for space use? I can spit a cavezzo.

Re: Iron Ass OXP
So what is this one supposed to do? ...Some sort of hyperspace-capable toilet brush? Armed with lasers for a "deep flush?"

Heh. Fancy electric toiletbrush, much more efficient.Cholmondely wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 12:29 amSo what is this one supposed to do? ...Some sort of hyperspace-capable toilet brush? Armed with lasers for a "deep flush?"
I think of it sort of like a generation ship. The three rotating pods could contain a lot of people. Quite huge, very slow. Like the trader nomad communities of Citizen of the Galaxy, they're always moving and will do business with anyone. The rear bay makes for pleasantly easy docking. I just have to figure out how to make their f8 market somewhat unique and interesting.

Thanks. I am assuming it's Heinlein's idea.

Re: Iron Ass 5 WIP
I think the big boy chapter IA vol.5 is ready for playtesting if anyone wants to help scrutinise for errors. I haven't found any for a little while, but with so many movable parts, many elements could surely be weighed a little differently. I'm certainly open for suggestions, not least in the area of commodity markets.
A big thank you to all who have helped, present and ghosts from the past.
Not so many months ago when my feelings for Oolite were rekindled, I got a desire to make the hOopyCasino like I wished it had been initially, and this feels a lot closer.
