I've managed to locate some of the background fluff! It appears that HIMSN is getting Co-Op cash (although maybe not as much as it would like, and maybe more than the Co-Op would like to give). This would have been the public-facing information (i.e. "what everyone knows"):
Her Imperial Majesty's Space Navy (HIMSN) is the military arm of the Tetiri Conclave. Based in a rather distant star-cluster to the south-west of quadrant five, the planets of the Conclave suffered some of the first Thargoid attacks on known space. Coming together under a treaty of mutual defence, and led by the human colonists of Orlaed and the reptile natives of Tetiri, the Conclave was able to build and equip a force of fighting ships capable of withstanding Thargoid aggression, eventually driving the invaders from their sector. The success of HIMSN led to the previously isolated Conclave being invited to join the Co-operative, and it is now one of the larger and more cohesive political subgroups to be found anywhere within the eight.

Although the Tetiri Conclave only recently became a full voting member, the ships and crews of HIMSN are already at the forefront of the fight against Thargoid incursions across the entire Co-operative volume. Unlike the disparate forces of GalCop, which tend to be focused on planetary policing, much of the work of HIMSN is carried out in deep space, denying territory to the enemy and thwarting raiding parties before they reach inhabited systems. Now that HIMSN has the financial and industrial muscle of the whole Co-operative to call upon, we can anticipate the swift and total defeat of the Thargoid menace.
Can I add this lore to the Tetiri Conclave region page in our wiki? Maybe split it up into a fiction part and a HIMSN part?

Fixed a couple of typos, and added a little something to the fiction section of Aquti's Wiki page (which needs a link to my user page).
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Thanks!

It is so nice to be able to add a little to the pages for the other galaxies!

Just wondering.

Presuming that we can fix the textures for the Navy stations, the markets and put in some sort of welcome on docking... and presuming that there are no other changes needing to be added before posting HIMSN to the Expansions Manager... should the next step be a HIMSN-friendly version of Famous Planets, adding in a handful of systems of relevance?

... the markets...
I can imagine HIMSN buying some stuff (booze, perhaps), but I can't imagine it selling anything.

That's exactly what the markets in the Galactic Navy do - buy and not sell (which is why they look broken at first glance: nothing for sale, just prices for buying). As you say, not selling anything makes sense.

I note with pleasure that the Empress of Tetiri has taken her rightful place on the Wiki.
I've added a little something to Ereddive's fiction section too.

I rather like the idea of the confusion of identity of the HIM in HIMSN - the result of Selezen's original ideas and D's reworking, and would like to preserve it. It should not be obvious until arriving at G5. HIM at Lave would want to maintain it (illusions of power and influence), and HIM at Tetiri would either be ignorant or unconcerned. A nice little touch of sophistication.

Assuming I'm correct in my estimation of the publishability of HIMSN, it would not make it into the final alpha version (Armed Forces Day is in Gimi's original beta version of HIMSN) but I do like the idea of a 20th September parade at Lave & the Old Worlds region, together with a GNN publicised scandal beforehand to draw the player's attention to it.

Cody: am I correct in my estimation of publishability of the alpha version? If I am, I would hope to take over this project and bamboozle enough people into helping do it/helping me do it in order to get the alpha version out. I think that with a little help I could sort out the market issues on my tod

This programming/combat ignoramus thinks that there are only 3 things that need doing before posting Version 1 (Eye Candy only) of this on the Expansions Manager.

1) Textures for the navy stations in the appropriate livery
2) Markets for the stations (the commodity prices are discussed earlier in this thread)
3) Some sort of welcome on docking (GN has one, why not HIMSN)

Have I missed anything important?

I presume that the AI issues were worked out (Gimi, Cim).
And that Cody's note was solved or is not vital
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Reference: From Gimi's original Summary
Development.
Version 1: (Eye Candy only)
Navy units from the core ship-set. Done
Navy stations. (HQ and Outpost) Done: but need textures, markets & "welcome"
Basic scripting and and AI behaviour. Done

Version 2: (Thargoid Interaction)
War zones with the Thargoids
Capital ships Done
Additional stations (Navy Shipyard and maybe some mission related type of station)

Version 3: (Missions)
Player Missions

So this is the framework as I see it.
Gimi's later summary is here

<grumbles> I suppose I'd better install the OXP and take a look. Where is the version you're using?
HIM at Tetiri would either be ignorant or unconcerned.
Oh entirely unconcerned, I'd think!

I think they'd offer a decent bounty on Alien items. Maybe some consumables, like Food and Alloys.

I'm looking for the debate earlier on in this very thread. There were two or three pages on it.

Here:

Commodities
Military Anaconda supply ship
Illegal trading & later rejoinder
Naval logistics
Naval markets/purchases <-------------

Summary of everything I've found:

Naval bases markets on the beaten track:
(Alien Items) 65Cr/TC would let them outbid almost all system stations. I wouldn't find it surprising if they paid more than that, since they're worth 50Cr/TC in tiny bits...

Maybe let them buy Food, Liquor/Wines, and Alloys too? Provides some insurance in case the supply vessel is ambushed, and doesn't take up too much storage space. (I'd use the standard commodities.plist prices for these - they can make their own shopping trips to the local station if need be, so there's not going to be much of a profit in it)
(https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?p=171074#p171074 Cim)

Naval bases markets off the beaten track:
...any stations not positioned in a regular system might be interested in buying a wider product range as they are further away from the trade routes.
(https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?p=171081#p171081 Gimi)

...And they may pay better for their most "needful things" than regular stations too, to encourage regular traders to keep them supplied...or at reduce their own logistics. The profit margin should suit the extra distances regular traders have to travel to get to them, within sensible limits...even 20 credits/TC for food is crazy.
But that only works if they are located somewhere where they might get regular traders. The stations in interstellar space certainly won't. :P

Even paying 100 credits per thargon won't really cause a problem. It's not like you can go somewhere with an Anaconda and fill your bay full of them. 8)

HIMSN Shipyards: I'd expect their base shipyards to offer the whole range of native equipment, regardless of the TL of the system in which it's located. Possibly at a premium, of course. That should certainly apply to their HQ in interstellar space. Unless this is already the case?
