Let me rephrase it, foreign intelligence officer, as much as I recall 16 years KGB with last rank Lt. Colonel. Btw the former head of the CIA Gina Haspel worked as a field officer as well.stranger wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 5:52 amTrained spy? Really? I wonder if Putin was able to blackmail Trump with stuff from his earlier visits to Mother Russia?
You'll never know names of really trained spies. Well, maybe decades later.

I have no facts to contend that Mr Putin was not field officer, just I doubt it. There is technical, analytical and just bureaucratic personnel in any intelligence and this later part of staff tends to overgrow.montana05 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 6:02 amLet me rephrase it, foreign intelligence officer, as much as I recall 16 years KGB with last rank Lt. I do agree with you that analytical and administration departments usually include the most employees. Since I didn't know his career at KGB I did some quick search and found this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/i ... /putin.htm from the Washington Post. How accurate this information is I can not say.

Thank you for info!
In brief - recruiting agents having safe cover in East Germany. No any really dangerous field work behind enemy lines.
