The Eschaton, from Charles Stross's Singularity Sky and Iron Sunrise.
The Seraphs, from Paul McAuley's Evening's Empires.
The Fast Folk, from Ken MacLeod's Fall Revolution series.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Whew, you actually brought an extra!
Took me a while to go through most of the references, the only weak link I would argue of is the Fast Folk (from the comments I could gather at least; besides the Culture series, I didn't read any of the titles myself, to be honest). Certainly a Culture Mind (wrapped in one of their ships) is one of the answers I was looking for.
Round's yours!

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
OK, another list of five: five SF books, TV shows, or films where the main driver of the plot is that the character(s) is/are lost, and are striving to find their way home (or, possibly, to reach some other destination).

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Comic books? Space Family Robinson?

Yes, comic books are allowed! Space Family Robinson counts as number one.

Earl Dumarest / Edwin Charles Tubb / searching for Earth
Scars remind us where we've been. They don't have to dictate where we're going.

Yes - they're not trying to find their way home, but they are searching for an unknown (possibly mythological) destination. That's three …Commander_X wrote:Battlestar Galactica?

Sliders - they couldn't find their way back to the dimension they started from (although in at least one episode they may have briefly returned without realising it)

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Well there is the whole of Star Trek 3 - the one with a woman in Kirk's chair, not the Earl-Grey-hot guy. Sorry - I never got into "Star Trek The Last 7 generations".Disembodied wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 9:51 amOK, another list of five: five SF books, TV shows, or films where the main driver of the plot is that the character(s) is/are lost, and are striving to find their way home (or, possibly, to reach some other destination).
Isn't it the one with a medical hologram providing comic relief?
Something about making their way back from the Delta Quadrant.

<finger counts: TOS, 1, TNG, 2, DS9, 3. Voyager 4; pedantically replies: />RockDoctor wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 11:41 pmWell there is the whole of Star Trek 3 - the one with a woman in Kirk's chair, not the Earl-Grey-hot guy.
Unless you consider Kirk's Star Trek as being Start Trek 0 (or maybe just Star Trek), the one you're talking about should be Star Trek 4.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Sliders makes four, and Star Trek: Voyager makes five! Other possible answers could have included Ulysses 31, or (for a lost-in-time variant) Quantum Leap.
