I imagine for asteroids or attacked stations / wracked ships this would look great.
Scars remind us where we've been. They don't have to dictate where we're going.

that looks awesome, does it ripple like liquid? if so, mixed in faintly over a regular texture would make a cool effect for alien ships like the Thargoids or one of the other oxp organic ships types

Yes it does and it looks great too. Just set the parallax_scale in zygoroids' plist to something nuts like 0.5 or something and enjoy.

Just out of curiosity, is there a way in a nightly release to turn off the "Development version [numbers]" thing in the upper right corner? Really is an immersion killer for me, not to mention interfering with the MFD in the same location.

There is - it involves editing oolite.exe in Hex. I do it, but I'll leave it for someone else to explain, as I ain't so good at giving clear instructions.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
