I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Screenshots
Those recent pics are with the then-experimental atmosphere shader. It's now available in trunk (using the Extra Detail setting).
It looks fine on the core planets too, but Povray Planets are so pretty (though a large download - 4.3GB for all eight sectors).

Re: Screenshots
@cbr: It is likely that your system does not support shaders or something goes wrong when running the particular atmosphere shader. If the atmosphere shader fails to run for whatever reason, then the system will fall back to the old atmosphere effect, which is what is shown in your snapshots.
Check your log on startup, it should report whether shaders are supported or not.

Re: Screenshots
Well povray planets has too great an impact on fps ( -> 6 fps )
I find the following inside the latest.log
[rendering.opengl.shader.support]: Shaders are supported.

Are there any errors about the atmosphere shader failing to compile?cbr wrote:I find the following inside the latest.log

Re: Screenshots
I updated to 1.85.0.6846 a few minutes ago and the atmosphere is now comparable to the screenshots i have seen here.
Maybe the 1.85.06837 i had wasn't recent enough...
