Unwanted re-routing

Post by davcefai »

I am not sure if this is a 1.82 feature or due to an OXP.

If there are planets on the route to my next jump target then my ship will go to an intervening planet, NOT the one I targeted. I appreciate that this saves game time because of the shorter jumps but there are times when I don't want to bother.

Is there a way to switch this feature on/off. I could be missing something here.

Thanks in advance for replies.

If you have the Advanced Navigation Computer installed then there are a couple of modes you can switch to by pressing the "^" (Shift-6) key: fewest jumps mode, fastest time mode, and off. Keep pressing the key until you get the mode you want.

I got it, thanks!

I had not realised that switching on the map reflected what the ship would do next.

Thanks again.

You can tell what mode you're in because the fewest jumps route shows a yellow line, the shortest time route shows a blue line and usually is a bit zig-zag because several short jumps, even covering a much greater distance, are often a lot faster than one big jump.

I'd more or less got that but did not make the connection that the choice of destination would be automatic.

Maybe like Terry Pratchett's Trolls, my mental processes are slowed by high temperatures and it has been a hot summer here - and it's still unseasonably hot and muggy now :(

The only other person I know who reads Pratchett is my daughter. I know there are millions out there but it's nice to meet others.

Hi all, (very) new commander here,

I was wondering, playing with my ANA... what is the rationale behind the "shortest"/"fastest" route ? I am all fine with the way it is, just wondering how a longer (distance) might end up being faster. Is hyperspace traveling time not linear ?

Anyway, good to be here,

Hi and welcome. The magic formula here is TravelTimeInHrs = DistanceInLY * DistanceInLY. This is done in order to add an element of strategy in your route planning. Take risk of a longer route and arrive in time or take risk of losing a contract but exposing yourself to less danger by means of fewer jumps? You decide.
