Someone suggested this program to me in an another forum. It seems interesting.

This does look interesting - hopefully the Linux version will materialise soon so I can try it.

Sounds similar to Celestia.

I was going to ask how it compares to Celestia. It's a really big program, just under a gigabyte download, how fast does it run and render graphics?

OK, I've got room for it, I'll give it a try.

later - I was worried the torrent would take ages to download, it's just passed 4mb/second and should be done in about 4 minutes!

later still - Downloaded and installed and I'm completely baffled. I think I need to RTFM. VERY pretty though...

Meanwhile, it looks like it runs on Wine: http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/8-161-1

Space Engine couldn't start on my previous laptop, but it runs on my new one, though its processor doesn't even match the recommended minimum (1,8 GHz, and min. 2 GHz recommended). It doesn't run smoothly (lags when approaching planets) but I'm completely happy with it.

SpaceEngine is what I used for all my promo trailers. :)

It's fab. Particularly the latest version.

Cheers,

I just wish it didn't require OpenGL3.0.. as it is, my poor ol' OpenGL2.1 laptop won't touch it.

Sounds better than Celestia. Celestia is also abandoned, at least the last time I checked in on the project site.

Looks very interesting indeed! Shame there's no Linux version (yet).

Unless one is building OS-specific tools there really is no excuse these days for software to not be cross-platform. Most code in a typical application is (or should be) completely OS independent and the small amount of OS-specific stuff is easily wrapped by a cross-platform toolkit these days.

I just saw some videos on Youtube, and... wow... I don't know what to say!

I'll try to install it, and if you don't see me in this forum for the next several million years, this thing is running smoothly on my PC (but I have my doubts because it isn't exactly a high-end gaming PC).
