A few experimental adjustments to the way hull temperature works:
- NPCs now get hull heating from energy damage, same as the player. Mostly this is cosmetic and just makes them glow red briefly after heavy hits ... but a small ship with lots of energy banks and no heat insulation might get hot enough to take heat damage if you really hit it with concentrated fire
- excess hull heat drains away slower. Mainly this is just to look better (so by the time you get back to external view after exiting hyperspace, your hull is still glowing a little from sunskimming), but be careful getting into fights near stars.
- the hullHeatLevel shader uniform now works the same for NPCs as it does for the player (i.e. it is clamped between 0 and 1). This stops the pure white effect on overheated NPCs.
The parameters probably need a little bit of fine-tuning.

Check out tonight's nightly for kanthoney's excellent new feature: a smooth scrolling short range chart. I know I sound like a poor TV advertisement, but you must see this. It's seriously bad-a** and a great improvement on what we've had till now.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

And to make life easier, holding Ctrl down while scrolling will now double the scroll speed. Makes it faster going long distances over the chart.

Or perhaps have the multiplier increase as a function of how long you've been scrolling in one go, acceleration style? The feature in general is working well though, nice one.

After a little play around, what works best for me is leaving the short range chart as it is now, and then 2x/4x current for the long range chart. Doubling speeds for the short range chart is a little too quick.
