Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures - now Additional Planets.oxp
Because I am Greedy.....
I note that when adding an additional texture pack some Moons and Planets bear the same designation as previously installed Planets and Moons. For example the Redux additional textures may contain a Planet called Planet C3 while the Expansion Set might also contain a texture called Planet C3 . You can imagine what effect this has .i.e replace the original texture of that name.
The work around , presumably is to rename the texture so as to retain both the original texture and the newer one.
It's not a fault with the oxp itself rather just something I thought worth noting if one wishes to take advantage of all the available textures.

I'm working with Redspear to produce a new version of the oxp. It will deal with the problems reported and adds some new funky features. The work is quite finished, but Redspear seems to be a bit occupied at the moment, thus the release will have to wait.

Thanks Pleb, Sir Arian and Duggan for your reports.
And yes, I've been very fortunate to be working with spara who has done some great work in getting this oxp to function in a way that we're both happy with. spara is a much better coder than I am at this moment and has also been able to implement ideas I could only dream about; much appreciated
spara, you can expect a PM later with some updates on the texture packs, if you're happy with those then I think we'll be ready to go
Thanks everyone for your patience. Work has been trying to take over my life lately

In Rienla system, G2 the moon is a bit too close from the second planet.

How close is too close? This close?Astrobe wrote:In Rienla system, G2 the moon is a bit too close from the second planet.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

It's touching how close they are.Cody wrote:How close is too close? This close?Astrobe wrote:In Rienla system, G2 the moon is a bit too close from the second planet.

I wanted to try that... I lost a three hops trading trip to an unlucky encounter with pirates. Problem is, extra dockables don't allow to save game, unless you have the 'save anywhere' OXP, which I didn't feel the need for... up to now.Redspear wrote:Thanks Astrobe, more to come when I get the timeAstrobe wrote:Those new textures look really nice. I wish there was full-featured lanes for each extra planets so I could go to the planet that looks better .
Ha ha maybe we need a player-centric lane that 'picks' the same route that you do spara's excellent 'Stations for Extra Planets' oxp is recommended for making such 'other planet' trips worthwhile.
But it seems to me that the longer trips to extra planets are not worth it. Even sun skimming isn't worth it given how cheap is the fuel. I think that it would be a whole different story if dockables that provide higher profit margins and unique opportunities were over there.

I believe they can in trunk (though I've only tested that with rock hermits).Astrobe wrote:Problem is, extra dockables don't allow to save game...

Stations spawned using the system populator in javascript you can save the game at. Look at the stations in the the latest alpha test for HIMSN and you can see in game you can save the game whilst docked there (sorry for the shameless plug).Cody wrote:I believe they can in trunk (though I've only tested that with rock hermits).Astrobe wrote:Problem is, extra dockables don't allow to save game...

Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures - now Additional Planets.oxp
Those planets and stations are there just for the show, they add colour to the game. You can visit them if you want or not. Maybe there is a story in your head that requires you to visit them? If you most definitely need a purpose set by the game to visit there , try in-system taxi. As for trading, I'm quite hesitant to add any lucrative profit opportunities there, as it easily breaks game balance. Some small scale opportunities can be checked with the market inquirer oxp. And there might be some new cargoes there too. And for the sfep stations, maybe there is a collector inside you that just needs to collect them with the station spotter oxp.Astrobe wrote:But it seems to me that the longer trips to extra planets are not worth it. How's that for a shameless plug?

This would bother me. I don't think you should be able to make money without leaving the system, otherwise you lose the incentive to go and explore the rest of the ooniverse...Astrobe wrote:But it seems to me that the longer trips to extra planets are not worth it. What I had in mind are the current dockables, such as the constores, rock hermits, RSS stations, etc. The intent was more about breaking the monotony of going from the witchpoint to the main station.Pleb wrote:This would bother me. The problem with stories you make up yourself: spoilersspara wrote:Maybe there is a story in your head that requires you to visit them?
Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures - now Additional Planets.oxp
The monotony as you say is essentially the whole point of elite/oolite, although I do agree that finding things to do along the way makes it more interesting. But I don't think that the player should have any/much monetary gain from visiting new planets, simply visiting them is enough exploration. Also as spara said things like the in-system taxi OXP are good as it doesn't pay out huge rewards but it does make you go to these places for a reason other than why not. But for me the why not is good enough!Astrobe wrote:What I had in mind are the current dockables, such as the constores, rock hermits, RSS stations, etc. The intent was more about breaking the monotony of going from the witchpoint to the main station.
