Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures
Yes please. I lost an uncommitted copy of the git shady-planets branch which I'm sure can be repatched. Email to the devs list or commit on that branch and I will try to at least get shady planets into git -proper.

If you're interested, I can make the code from DH-Systems 2 available to you. It was started and abandoned due to real-life demands on my time, and some script issues. It included code for having other OXP's register artwork and even planet positions into DHS2 for use. Had some other "cool" features. Least I thought them cool.
I may get around to starting the project up again, but in the mean time, you might find some inspiration.

Wow! Yes please; that's very generous of you. Thank youCmd. Cheyd wrote:Redspear-

That sounds very relevant to what I'm trying to do.Cmd. Cheyd wrote:It included code for having other OXP's register artwork and even planet positions into DHS2 for use. Had some other "cool" features. Least I thought them cool.

I'm not much of a coder yet, so inspiration tends to lead to borrowing and tweaking (rather than rewriting) at the moment.
I'd be happy to get back in touch before releasing anything, to make sure that you approved.
Thanks again

Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures
I plan to make an OXP which put more planets into systems (with activity goals, not ambience only). I am thinking to use these textures also to make secondary planets, but I found 37 only in the mentioned homepage.Redspear wrote:I've sourced some other textures that are available under the creative commons licence.
You can see them here: http://freebitmaps.blogspot.co.uk/
I now have over 90 moon textures and 100 planet textures to play with.
How about your project?
If it is delayed then (or anyway) may I use these textures?
If yes then can you help me to get all textures?

Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures
Hi Norby, sorry for my absence...
Ok well yes, my little oxp got delayed while I was messing around with scaling issues but also when Cmdr Cheyd (very helpfully) suggested I looked at his code, which seemed to be an improvement over what I was using. It is currntly functional but before releasing I need to make sure I'm not stepping on any toes with regards to pinching bits of someone else's code or using their textures...
The 100+ textures I mentioned included those from sytem redux & demux as well as the ones you mention and other free ones that I'd found here and there. Some that I'd really like to use are those that were created by Parazaine https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f= ... 45e051d8df but s/he doesn't seem to have been around here for a while...
As for the use of the textures, they're not mine so I can't really claim them as such May I ask however, that you first give me a week to try and release this oxp in one form or another? I expect you'll do something far more impressive with them than I will but, well, I'd like to have a little try.
Oh, and thanks for asking
You will also be welcome to use any of the other included textures that I'd sourced (or modified in some cases) subject to any original licencing thsat they might have.
Intrigued by your 'activity goals' idea

Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures
Of course. Meantime I found other sources, for example celestiamotherlode.net and I have a new idea: due to Famous planets is in Povray planets the old textures of these planets are left out. So I grabbed these form the old zip files of Povray planets to make secondary planets into this systems - one more reason why these are famous if there are more planets within.Redspear wrote:give me a week to try and release this oxp in one form or another?
Some parts are working now so I will make a WIP topic with more info and a test version soon.Redspear wrote:Intrigued by your 'activity goals' idea

Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures
True - the rendering pipeline for these is also still working I think - so if you'd like some freshly rendered ones that is also a possibility.Norby wrote:... and I have a new idea: due to Famous planets is in Povray planets the old textures of these planets are left out.

Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures
You made good work in the 3.3-times larger modifications in the rescaling topic so I started to think on the other, 100 times larger version. But meantime I found ideas to make playable the realistic distances also which are 300000 times longer than current lanes. Moreover I can make it at OXP level which is a bit faster.Redspear wrote:Looking forward to seeing what you're up to

Holy Smoke! That looks amazing and you're doing it by oxp too
Consider me a fan
Meanwhile I've had a go at releasing this planet thing as an oxp (downloads and descriptions on first post).

Nice work! The used free 4000x2000 textures are exceptionally good.Redspear wrote:Meanwhile I've had a go at releasing this planet thing as an oxp (downloads and descriptions on first post).

Meanwhile, I've fixed a bug (or at least I think I have...) that was preventing many of the textures from being used.

Re: Extra Planet/Moon textures - now Additional Planets.oxp
Thanks Norby. I've updated that texture pack with a couple of improvements.Norby wrote:Nice work! The used free 4000x2000 textures are exceptionally good.
1. There were a few .jpg files that wouldn't dispaly so I've converted them to .png
2. I've included an optional planetinfo file that makes these textures appear far more often (good for testing or if you're not so keen on including some of the other packs.
Started adding some sample pics to the first post to.
