Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
A new take on an old ship (even though it's In Service date isn't for another thousand years or so )...
This was my first play with Wings3D, and indeed with any form of 3D computer modelling.
Anyone who uses it regularly can probably see that I've only got the hang of about 3 or 4 different 'tools'
There have been some excellent new models put out for the fer-de-lance (it's still recognisable, right? ) but for me they all went a little away from the identity of the original: one of the few Elite wireframes with detail 'within the triangles'.
It looks less like a coffin now and more like a hand-held vacuum cleaner
(...'planetary "shake n' vac" in 5 minutes and counting'...)
Less sure about the underside...
An earlier version looked even more like a Harlequin
Feedback, advice, criticism,death-threats all welcome.
...and thanks to Simon B for his 'bump' and 'slide' tips in one of his Neolite tutorials

Looking very nice, especially for a first attempt at modeling! I'm impressed!

The modell looks very nice and keeps the original elite style. I look forward how it will look when the model is textured. Good work!Redspear wrote:A new take on an old ship (even though it's In Service date isn't for another thousand years or so )...

Thanks for the encouragement folks
I've done another but this one might be a bit more controversial...

I thought that the modelling was going to be the hard part and that texturing would be relatively easy... my opinion is starting to changeCaptain Beatnik wrote:I look forward how it will look when the model is textured.

Two excellent looking ships, Redspear! Nice work..
Really? Why? It's still got that legendary Krait look about it.. but now with some nice detail-work.Redspear wrote:I've done another but this one might be a bit more controversial...
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Thank youDiziet Sma wrote:Two excellent looking ships, Redspear! Nice work..
Well, I've emphasised the... 'cockpit' (gasp! )... which some might find rankles a bit with regards to the dreaded 'S' word.Diziet Sma wrote:Really? Why? After years of Elite, I just have trouble seeing it as anything else...
Anyway, nice to think that someone else doesn't see a problem with it

Well heck.. so do Griff's ships.. they're even lit from within, and in at least one case, if you look very closely, you can even see what appears to be a suggestion of a pilot in a chair inside.. so I don't think what you've done is particularly controversial..

So now we even know who it is that we can see strapped into that chair!

Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
Griff's stuff is amazing, as has been well documented on these boards (and rightly so), but if you compare the size of the cockpit on his krait with the size of the cockpit on this one then I suspect you can see what I'm getting at... not the presence of it but rather the relative scale of it.Diziet Sma wrote:Well heck.. so do Griff's ships.. they're even lit from within, and in at least one case, if you look very closely, you can even see what appears to be a suggestion of a pilot in a chair inside.. so I don't think what you've done is particularly controversial..

Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
That's one explanation.. the other is that I noticed something going on in the cockpit of of one of Cody's posted screenshots, so I zoomed in for a better look, and found I really had seen what I thought I saw..
