It's probably not just a "control panel" because it involves an "application of a portable consumer electronic device," and it's more or less implied that the "configurable environment" is distinct from the device.

Most people would call this type of system a "remote control app", but if Apple called it by its simple name, the patent officials would likely just reject it as trivial.

I wonder if this filing was related to the iTunes Remote app...

My experience is that the US patent office don't reject anything, no matter how braindead the application is!

Which somehow begs the question why not some smart US denizens of these boards go ahead and patent all sorts of mundane things, and let Amazon, Apple & Cie. bleed in license fees when they attempt to do the same?

Or to be accurate I've dreamed Oolite since E: D really got underway. If E: D hadn't got going I would never have looked around for something and found Oolite - the only computer game that I've actually been able to play without failing miserably on a constant basis since I was a child!

That sounds like a quote from my "I dreamed about ED" thread on the ED forum. Not read that quote on there yet! (I always check the Oolite forum before heading over to ED lol)
