default canister dumping order

Post by Commodore Sics D'fore »

Hi. I just discovered this game, and boy does it take me back.... to the future.8)

One very minor thing that I wish was different: I think that when you scoop up a cargo container, it should be the first in line for dumping, because often I pick something up and find that I don't want it. Rather than having to cycle through all my other cargo (most of which I probably already decided I do want), it would be nice to be able to just hit one key to dump the new acquisition, and be ready to go try another can.

....

Now for a little personal blather, that I didn't feel needed its own thread, as you probably get it all the time:

I killed many hours (days, weeks...) playing the original Elite on the C64 when I was in high school. With the added complexity, features, and the endless capacity for expansion, this thing is sure to have me addicted again. (Oh dear.) This is a big improvement on the original. I really like the fuel injectors, and other nifty gadgets that have been added.

Your very wish is my command* (r619).

*not true BTW - just that this was a sensible suggestion and easy to implement

Wow. Thanks.

But... (and please forgive my ignorance) how do I implement the change? I don't know what (r619) means.

 :?

It means it'll be included in the next release (which is currently the v1.65 release candidate).

If you really want it, you can build your own copy of the bleeding edge from the source files available via SVN.

Thanks, Rxke. (How do you pronounce that? j/k. :) )

Yeah, I have downloaded a number of the add-ons already. Cool stuff.

I know I have a ship in mind I would like to make if I can find the time, though I have never used the applications involved.

What ship, you ask? A "Firefly" from the short-lived TV show of the same name (and the movie "Serenity"). It would be a complicated build, but I would love to do it (or see it, if someone else were to do it).

Well, I am way off the original topic of this thread now, so I will shut up now.

Heehee, it's a bit of word-play in Dutch, in English approx 'Rick-scu(d)' (I mean don' t pronounce the 'd')

(dutch diminutive of my name Rik.)

a Firefly would be nice.

Of course, on the show, the firefly ship came with no weapons, but we can take some liberties.... :D

Who knows if and when I will be able to do this, so don't hold your breath.

Well, I was wondering when someone to point out the Firefly-Elite connection. Both are universes where one has the freedom to do whatever one wishes. Explore, trade, carry passengers, steal, scavenge. Be good guys, be bad guys. Just keep flying.

One of these days I'm going to scoop a container, open it and find in it fast asleep ... a trumble. Hmm, never mind.
Attacking a Navigational Beacon is illegal. Police are on their way.
