One minor quibble, a slight clash on the chart, I guess the same could happen with the lower block of text too..
Could the text blocks move out a bit more without ruining your balanced look? I suppose this wouldn't happen much anyways considering how far over Xeoner is, it's up to you.

There isn't anything that can be done about that, unfortunately. The text is as far to the left and as high as it can go (or at least as far to the left as Oolite will put it). You could remove the colon from "From:" in the missiontext.plist, to shorten that line by one character (and remove the space between the planet name and the symbols), but that's about it. It should be pretty rare that there would be a star displaying way up there on the chart, or out over the Agree menu option on the bottom.
To reduce the chance of a clash on the Agree menu options, you could shorten them in the missiontext.plist from "Agree to contract" / "Agree to this contract" to "Sign contract / Sign this contract", perhaps. And change "View next/previous contract" to simply "Next/Previous contract". I don't think it would remove the chance of a clash completely either way. At least it should be quite rare to be in a system where there are stars showing in those corners.
...and while he's doing that, if you all would like another little update that should keep the text away from the stars on the map, you can download this ZIP -- http://www.keeper1st.com/pics/oolite/ec_update.zip -- which contains two updated files (they go in different folders, but you're clever enough to find the old ones to replace 'em, right?).
At last I have finished messing about with the screens for this, so here is mine and Keepers combined effort to spruce this up a little, let us know of any problems..
Ooh, fancy spinning coin on the initial screen! You've misspelled "independence" on the coin, alas. I'm concerned about the brightness of parts of these backgrounds, as they can make the text a bit tricky to read at times. I think I'll tone down the lightness on my install. They're beautiful, though!
