This is probably not straightforward, but I would really like to see an implementation so that Oolite can discern NPC's being killed by you (the player) and other entities/occurrences.
Because I was testing a script, and saw the target being killed by Thargoids (coincidence) before I could get a shot at it myself, and it triggered the Deathactions of said target, (going: congratulations! etc etc.) while I had no part in it.
Likewise, I have the suspicion that alsohappened to me in the new Military.oxp. I got a thumbs up, saying I was doing well, but really am lost why, didn't spot any of the ships typical to the OXP.. Probably one of the baddies getting finished by vigilant GalCops roaming around?

right on commander.
in theory NPCs could finish off the mission for you.
I've been trying to think it through before mentioning it, but it's a big flaw in the way military.oxp currently works. I haven't seen any brill solution to it, because making the target ships simply too hard to kill by 'normal NPCs isn't the way to go..
it would be great if there was a way to flag ownership of a kill.

Indeed...
But it would seem silly, wouldn't it, for you to stand back and watch wave after wave of Vipers blasting away at a ship and it doesn't take a scratch of damage.
On Arc Elite, one of the missions involved you going after someone in a ship (I forget the details). It was a hugely powered and strong ship and very fast; I'd shoot it and it would damage my Cobra so I had to flee, then recharge and come back... I was delighted when some Vipers turned up and finished the job for me
