Currently standing at 58.5% funded. I would have been happier to see it at 70% by now. There is time.

So version 1 is in fact a sort of Oolite :). But with the fundament for the rest of the game in place. Then he will expand on it and add planetary landing and walking in space stations/ships.

"This game HAS to be made"

"WHEN we first release the game..."

"This WOULDN'T be available on first release."

Not a single IF or MAYBE there - this game is happening, people, Kickstarter funding or not...

<desperately crosses fingers>

Now, reality check. A LOT of stuff is being deferred until "later". That word scares me, because "later" in terms of Elite IV meant nearly 20 years. If Dangerous is released in mid 2014 that'll be 19 years since FFE. How long will the rest of the content take to create? Fully realistic, procedurally generated planets with wildlife and nature and individuality? Fully realised space stations containing fully realised ships and populations, including players?? Will Diso have 6 million cats on it?

I hope that Frontier aren't setting too high a goal here. I still believe that this stuff wouldn't be said if Frontier hadn't gone most of the way there already but I'm starting to wonder. Will Frontier's development staff be put full-time onto Elite following the launch or will they mostly go back to writing Wii games? If the staff are dedicated to ED then it should be an achievable goal.

Who will be publishing it? I think the only reliable option is to self publish, due to the really bad history Braben has had with publishing Frontier and FFE.

That background in the last segment (the blue sky one) looked like it had a fancy Krait on it - something that might have come out of Griff's workshop... ;-)

I love the fact that they are pushing the 'fluff' off. Here are my reasons why.

1. DB is at least hinting at a large update history and the chance of long-term support after the game launches.

2. More time to 'get it right' as he said throughout the video. I don't want FFE's generic and boring planets. (I NEVER went planetside unless it was for a mission. Stations where just so much quicker and did the same thing.)

However, I fall into the group of people who are looking for GAMEPLAY not sight-seeing. So I don't really understand why folks are getting all hot and bothered over no planetary landings. They never immersed me at all. Space is where all of the interesting stuff happened.

Anyhow. I'm pretty excited, and DB is giving me ALOT of faith. I had utterly given up hope on Elite IV, but DB's excitement for the features he talks about, gets me excited! :D

Agree. Frontier are taking a very sensible approach by planning to deliver chunks of greatness at a time. Looks like we're in for a decade of fun and adventure! :)

That new anaconda concept art looks nice, looks like they've scaled it down a bit
Some big ideas in that new video update, walking around on planets hunting the wild life etc, i wonder if there' be a military watering can addon can so i can grow 1T of food to trade quicker than usual.

Have they doubled the number of writer's packs available? I could swear it was only five, but now it's ten.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I had the same impression. Perhaps they did it because there are now more than five funding attempts for the pledge underway, and they found it fair to give everyone the opportunity actually do the pledge. :D

I'm pretty sure it was ten to begin with. I remember being surprised it was that high ... and now I'm surprised just how many people and groups are going for it.

I'm not too surprised by that - there's a lot of wannabe writers out there.

It was 10 to start with. I made a note of it at the time as I assumed they'd all go rather quickly.

Cheers,

Drew.
