As a small (and obvious) addendum to this piece of sage advice, it helps to have a [wiki]Wormhole Scanner[/wiki] fitted, if you're going to be a professional hitcher. Of course, if your destination is "Anywhere but here", then these sorts of details can be overlooked.Diziet Sma wrote:On a RandomHits assignment, if I have to make a long jump into a system, I'll loiter in the Station Aegis scanning wormholes until I can hitch a free ride. I once waited an hour (real time) and 20+ wormholes, for a trader heading to the system I wanted. Better that than getting jumped on arrival by six or more henchmen, and me with near-dry tanks.

It's interesting how I keep finding myself having started threads which I never started …

Thanks for it!
I'm saving pilotsArt and some ref sheets on a flash drive for a new player I just 'recruited.'

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I'm not a Mod. What gives you this idea? That's why I'm "complaining"* about being the innocent victim of Mod work.Diziet Sma wrote:<chuckles> Ahh.. the life of a Mod. Nothing to do with me... I'm not a Mod either (I'm more of a Rocker, to be honest)!Commander McLane wrote:I'm not a Mod. What gives you this idea? That's why I'm "complaining"* about being the innocent victim of Mod work.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Ah.. sorry.. for some stupid reason I thought you were the one who split the thread.. had it in my head that phpBB listed the splitter as author of the new thread..Commander McLane wrote:I'm not a Mod. Just one of those brain-fart moments, I guess..

This particular act of mod is down to me, in response to a request for a split. I just picked the post which seemed to be the first one to head off reliably into a new topic ...

On a side note; what I usually do with random hits is jump in, quickly turn to the sun, fuel scoop and return to the witchpoint beacon...
Then I'm ready for the kill!

Of course, when speaking of a round-trip to the sun and back, "quickly" is a very relative term..
