Re: New ships under development
Yes, I always thought it was 150TC. That always struck me as a bit small, though. Around 200 would sound more logical based on the other freighters.

Re: New ships under development
Just out of interest does anyone know the size of the larger cargo contracts ?
And is their actually any call for a freighter with a cargo capacity greater than say 250T ?

Re: New ships under development
The cobra is - comared to the the boa - a very flat design. Unfortunately I have not found a method yet to determine the exact volume of a model in wings3d, but it seems to me that the boa is the bigger vessel. (Of course I might be wrong.)cim wrote:Bit of trivia: the Cobra III is about 15% larger than a Boa. The Python is larger than both, though as a much older design of freighter it probably wouldn't be as space-efficient.
I have taken a screenshot that shows the two ships from topview - from this viewpoint the cobra seems to be bigger than the boa - and sideview. From sideview the corba seems to be much smaller than the boa.
Does anyone know a method to determin the exact volume of a model in wings3d? That would be helpful to all shipdesigners who want to give their designs a "realistic" cargo capacity in relation to the size an shape of the hull.

Re: New ships under development
Cargo contracts are between 30 and about 500 TC, with an average of around 150TC.
Using that, I get
Boa - 118770, CobraIII - 81845, Cargopod - 229
Looks like approximating based on the ship's mass isn't quite as reliable as I thought it would be.

YES, that is the function I was looking for! Thank you very much!cim wrote:Tools -> scene info: area and volume, which is probably more accurate than the mass-based approximation.

Re: New ships under development
In order to provide a comparison I just also checked the Serpent Class Cruiser. It has a volume of 424242.Tools -> scene info: area and volume, which is probably more accurate than the mass-based approximation.
I have also decided to include fuel scoops, a forward beam laser and 4 missiles as standard equipment.
Having just taken the first prototype out for a test flight the ship has a good feel to it (I also took out a couple of pirates who thought that they'd have a go at relieving me of my cargo - As it happened they contributed to my cargo ).

It might be fitting if the name of your ship would contain some Douglas Adams reference...Shipbuilder wrote:I just also checked the Serpent Class Cruiser. It has a volume of 424242.

Re: New ships under development
Once that I have correctly set up a prototype version and carried out some play-testing would anyone be interested in testing a pre-release version of the Serpent Class Cruiser ?
The pre-release version would only have a simple texture but other than that should more or less be what I intend to release as a finished oxp.
I would be particularity interested in feedback from people flying Pythons, Boas, Boa 2s with comments on how this compares to these ships however feedback from pilots of other ships would also be appreciated.

Re: New ships under development
something i did is take inspiration on how it looks the real technology involved... the adder and the boa has different kind of vector thrusting devices one being a nossle type and other a biaxial type (used in, for example on the F-15 ACTIVE) as the main device of manheuvering in space comes from the engine's exhaust this technology would be totally aplicable o.o
here's a preview of the Cobra mk3 with only Yaw thrust (bidimentional type vectoring)

Also the Chimera Gunship should be ready for release in the near future - EDIT the Chimera is now available for download (See the link in my signature strip below).
