Laser Cooling Boosters...........Ahem.
Look, I know this subject has probably been mentioned on numerous occasions (I am new here so not read through all the posts yet) and yes, I know, if the player had cooling boosters then to even things up, the NPC's would have to have them as well but then.....so what! Surely it is shield and hull strength that will ultimately dictate survivability of a particular vessel (cooling boosters or not). Different ships have different armaments anyway and adding cooling boosters would just mean you have to be even more conservative with those energy banks in case you encounter a NPC with them installed - no more itchy ECM trigger finger!
Just sayin'!
Just sayin'!

...or just learn to use the lasers thoughtfully, then it's not a problem

This subject comes up often, and the reasons why this won't happen are explained at length, as are the techniques/skills employed to avoid excessive overheat of the lasers.

Re: Laser Cooling Boosters...........Ahem.
The problem with this is, you could simply blow 99% of any ooniverse stuff up with this. It's like McLane's overkill fun oxp. You simply can't balance it, as only the strongest NPC ships could withstand a laser-cooled military laser, and if you give the cooler to NPCs too, then players who are not flying the best of the best ships will experience lots of insta-death moments which is not a good idea game-design-wise.
I am usually the guy who will vote for anything that will expand the game but even I am against this for the abovementioned reasons.

As I mentioned in another thread: Cooling boosters, no. Alternative firing modes, yes.
I want semi-auto lasers and charge up, R-type style.
Having semi-auto lasers would be way better than cooling boosters. And with these modes you just have them switchable. Standard -> semi-auto -> semi-auto with charge up -> (insert other firing modes).
With these modes, the heatup should remain unchanged.

Gotta agree. To use an M16A2 for reference, it's got semi-auto and three-shot burst. You can fire in either, both have their uses, and it's still a 30-round magazine. At least, standard issue mags are 30-rd.maaarcooose wrote:I want semi-auto lasers and charge up, R-type style.

Re: Laser Cooling Boosters...........Ahem.
You could just control how you fire your laser - single-shot mode is usually most effective!

Re: Laser Cooling Boosters...........Ahem.
[broken record mode] I for one would really love to see laser cooling boosters in the game, or how about having the weapon stats available in a .plist that we can edit befaore launching the game - the plist it doesn't have to be available to oxps or anything [/broken record mode]

Re: Laser Cooling Boosters...........Ahem.
Semi-auto mode is a must have, not "laser cooling boosters".
With the military laser and low framerate, I *CAN'T* fire just one shot by tapping the fire button.

I would also suggest a burst-fire option; let's say 2 or 3 second burst.Switeck wrote:Semi-auto mode is a must have, not "laser cooling boosters".

It's coming, on my list and the groundwork is already there.maaarcooose wrote:As I mentioned in another thread: Cooling boosters, no. Alternative firing modes, yes.

Check out the Hassoni-Kruger Burst laser in the test version 0.21 of CustomLasers.oxp for trunk 1.77. Version 3 currently delayed by many amazing discoveries and applications relevant to future development in this oxp.Rese249er wrote:I would also suggest a burst-fire option; let's say 2 or 3 second burst.Switeck wrote:Semi-auto mode is a must have, not "laser cooling boosters".

Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.
