Good point. Sorry about the length. I didn't want to risk accidentally cutting anything important out while trying to weed the redundancies. This way it's also a completely intact latest.log. There do appear to be errors, of the shader kind, but my novice eye didn't see anything else out of the ordinary.

In addition to switching from forward to aft, now I have experienced this problem with rotating from aft to forward lasers. I was doing a turn and halfway through the enemy ship exploded and I was given credit |-0. This problem does seem completely daft, I'm sure, but I have been playing long enough to know something isn't right, and it is almost annoying enough for me to have to consider rolling back to version 1.76 :-/.

I am as stunned as everybody else by your problem, so this is really a shot in the dark. Apologies if I ask the too obvious: You new avatar shows a Caduceus. Are you flying this ship? And if so, are you sure it's not simply your plasma turrets making short work of your enemies?

Dude, I think you might be on to something. I was thinking about the possibility of this problem being my ship last night. I do pilot a Caduceus Omega, but don't I have to actively fire the plasma turrets, or are they perhaps firing automatically (pardon my ignorance :oops: ) ? If so, I'd like to disable that option ;). More so, if this is the case, I'm going to be mortifyingly embarrassed :lol:.

No, turrets fire automatically, if

  • There is a hostile ship around.
  • You don't have your weapons on safety.
  • You have the ship targetted.
  • It is within range of the turret (standard range is 6km).
  • Your ship is equipped with turrets.
This is where my TAP OXP comes into its own, as it helps deal with the 2nd of the 3 requirements.

There is only currently one ship with switchable turrets (my Vortex), at least independently from the ships lasers and missiles.[/color]

Well, the main feature of the Caduceus is that it has plasma turrets, and the main feature of plasma turrets is that they fire on their own. That's actually the whole point of having them (and therefore of flying a Caduceus). And that's not an option, but—as I said—the whole point of having turrets in the first place. If you don't want them, why are you flying a ship that as a design principle is solely about having turrets as sort of its primary weapons? :?:

Actually, I chose the Caduceus for 3 reasons:
  • Speed
  • Reasonable about of cargo space when expanded
    lastly, and most importantly
  • For the ten pylon mounts (mostly for extra fuel tanks so as to keep moving).

    I should add as well:
  • It is a beautiful ship ;)

I've read about the plasma turrets, but thought that was just a piece of equipment to buy :oops: (I have plasma guns that are bought on the F3 screen on the starboard and port).

I feel pretty silly now - really sorry about the confusion fellas. This explains why this was occurring while ships were in close proximity. As I look back on it, I can remember seeing plasma being fired before, but I actually thought it was the enemy's fire, not my own (it's not easy to catch your own weapons in action from within the spacecraft).

This is where my TAP OXP comes into its own, as it helps deal with the 2nd of the 3 requirements.

There is only currently one ship with switchable turrets (my Vortex), at least independently from the ships lasers and missiles.[/color]
I'll have to look into this OXP - or see if I can disable these turrets altogether.

The only way to disable them is to remove them - that's the work-around that the Vortex uses (when the turrets are turned off, they are temporarily removed).

I know this is another "brilliant" question :roll: , but how do I remove them? From one of the .plist files in the Confg folder in the Caduceus oxp folder?

Yes, shipdata.plist. It should be in the config folder of the OXP.

Look for the entry for the ship you are flying (caduceus-omega-player - line 339 if you have the same version of the OXP that I do) and then go down to the sub-entities key for it (lines 402 to 417 in my copy).

The turrets are sub-entities, in my version lines 409-416. Just delete those from the array, and then restart Oolite with the shift key held down until you see the spinning cobra.

Thanks Thargoid :mrgreen: ! Your instructions were right on the mark ;) - I would have had to ask which particular turrets to delete, but with the line numbers I could easily see the ones in question.

Thanks for the help fellas, especially Commander McLane for pointing out the now clear culprit. And sorry again, too, for all the confusion... :whoops:

Edit: Thargoid's instructions to remove lines 409-416 (current version of the Caddy) in addition to lines 75-80 will completely remove player turrets on the Caduceus (see this post for more)

This thread suggests to me that perhaps the log should include as a standard entry, just what ship the player is using, and maybe installed equipment as well..
