It's how Giles designed the game. His reasons I don't know. I guess it's about having some variation in HUDs even before the first ever OXP HUD was created.El Viejo wrote:It's okay Griff, I know why it didn't transfer, I only wondered about the reason for theGriff wrote:... sorry now i've re-read your post you're asking why your hud didn't automatically transferhud-small

It makes some sense for the Adder I suppose, but not for the Cobra I.

A hundred pages in the thread - well done, Griff!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Looks like Greenpeace have repainted this stolen Viper and are currently en-route to the planet Glastoonbury...lol sorry, terrible joke!Griff wrote:[blog post]
I'm not actually too keen on the idea that it's Thargoid infiltrators that have stolen the viper, so in my version i might change this to Anarchists that have stolen the ship, i've made a start on the art...
...and hopefully something like the constrictor mission script can be cut down and adapted for the rest of the stuff

Well, the 'small' HUD is for small ships with only one or two energy banks. Presumably if say a Gecko or Mamba was player-flyable that too would get the small HUD.Commander McLane wrote:It's how Giles designed the game. His reasons I don't know. Yeah it's definately more hippy-ish than anarchist! Would be fun to paint some of the larger ships like this too, have some sort of megaweed gang or somethingPleb wrote:Looks like Greenpeace have repainted this stolen Viper and are currently en-route to the planet Glastoonbury...lol sorry, terrible joke!

How about some textures like the paint-jobs the Reavers had in Serenity (Leaving the "hull add-ons" out of course). Would make good "Pirate" textures.

Re: Griff's normalmapped ship remakes
some oxp updates:
gecko - a few extra polygon bevels to the model and a new texture for the underside
mamba - a new panel design for the top and bottom. The 'player' version in the player_flyable_NPC_ships oxp now has a scrolling starfield environment map.
Moray - a new glowing engine subentity, hard and soft edges on the model, player version now has scrolling starfield environment map.
Asteroids - added some new large asteroid objects, some new boulder objects and some small burning rock chunks that hang around for a while when a rock is exploded
All the above standalone oxps over at my box net account and the 'all-in-1 bundle' at deephorizon.com have all the new updates and hopefully no bugs!

Re: Griff's normalmapped ship remakes
It sort of makes your ships hull look like it's reflecting the background starfield as if it was made of chrome or something - it's a completely fake effect of course, the shader isn't looking at the surrounding environment at all, it's just adding a blobby 'starfield' texture into the ships texture map and scrolling it about as your ship turns and spins through space, the npc ships all used the players eye vector to control this scrolling, but if you look at your ship with the external camera views, the eye vector between you and your ship never changes so you never see the starfield scroll, these updated shaders now use the position of the system sun as a reference, the scrolling is a bit weird and incorrect but it's passable enough to add the effect back into the player versions of the ships

Love that "graffiti" painted Viper, looks cute! Ooooh and I-War gets a mention too, I still have the big box version of that, its a cool game, better than the second one I think
