Unfortunately there is no real transparency for textures in Oolite. But what you can do is to invert the normals for your windscreen only. This creates an odd-looking effect of pseudo-transparency. Now you only have to place some objects (or another face with something painted on it) behind the windscreen.mandoman wrote:LOL, I could make the player version use a light grey windscreen, but I'm not sure any of your interior elements would show even then.

Whoa, that sounds cool. I have never reversed the normals to get the opposite effect before.Commander McLane wrote:Unfortunately there is no real transparency for textures in Oolite. I know, not him again. I was so tickled with this one, though, that I just had to put up a couple screen shots of it in Blender. Waaaaay too big for a player ship, but I am also working on something along the same line that could be a player ship.

If those discs were spinning, it'd make a very cool space habitat station.
But as a npc ship...just no.
It looks like a couple Star Trek ships mating with each other.

rotating or not, it would make a stonking station. the tubes could be the docking areas (obviously you can only have one dock, just paint a closed door on the other or such like).
i'm getting the vibe of a huge "pleasure dome" type thing, those discs being big casinos, restaurants and the like.

What KW said.
I think we have the contours of Mandoman's first station (If he agrees that is).

Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
I hadn't thought of it in terms of a station......for that matter, I hadn't thought much of anything about it. I was messing around with "Star Trek" designs, just for fun, and a possible flyable user ship of similar design, and one thing just led to another........hmmm, a station, huh? I COULD put in a dock, but right at the moment I have two other ships with which I have been able to make the docks do nothing more than quiver like a giant chunk of jello beside them in space. Looks ridiculous, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I know this ship looks kind of funky. I had considered making it a base, for military type uses, with other smaller, but similar ships coming and going, but that's all in my head. I don't usually get what I have intended to do, done.
Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
Here is a possible player version. I thought it could be used as either a battleship, or a cargo hauler, the large containment section in the middle being the cargo hold, for the most part.

don't like that at all. that huge wedgey bit is totally at odds w/ the rest of the model.

lira by MiMoriarty, on Flickr
This is a new ship I'm working for the next Radical Logistics version. I called it Lira.
As both previous ships, Yasen-N and skat, it's a fast transport ship. 220 Tons and 0.390 will be its main features.
I'm freaking out about shaders , I've tried the Abruman-Griffs Rocket Example but cannot make them run on my ships. I'm looking for a DON'T PANIC tutorial as the one I followed from Staer9 for Blender in order to learn how to build and configure shaders mainly for engine heat. Can someone tell where i could learn about it?
Sorry for my ugly english

PS - Nice ship! (It's got wings too so is it a planetary ship?)

Neither did I. It's been a bit modified since the version I posted.......actually, heavily modified.Killer Wolf wrote:don't like that at all. that huge wedgey bit is totally at odds w/ the rest of the model.
Nice looking ship, MiMoriarty. Shaders are over-rated.

I've installed Planetfall from the beginning. So i would rather like an Ooniverse were traders could land on planets, stations, or whatever they like. I try to capture this feeling in my models.
Maybe you're right. But, I want to learn about them and give it a try"Shaders are over-rated."

Go for it. I probably don't like them much, because I couldn't figure them out.MiMoriarty wrote:Maybe you're right. But, I want to learn about them and give it a try"Shaders are over-rated."
