Hi Ebbo. It really is some game is it not. Nowadays there is only two video games I bother with, Oolite and Plants vs Zombies :P

I can't resist recommending a few oxps. giff's ship skins take the graphics to a whole new level. "Your Add Here" gives you Bladerunner style billboard advertising. "Random Hits" is a must for the budding bountyhunter. Hundreds of new ships, dozens of missions, lots of new equipment. You will probably spend more time downloading new oxps at first than playing. It gets just as adictive as the game itself. Have fun.

I would advise you to install the OXPs very slowly, and do not be tempted to install super-weapons before installing more powerful enemies. You do need to learn how to make money and how to dog fight and when to run away to really get the most from the game.

But, of course, YMMV, as may your personality.

Yeh, I should of said install them one at a time so if something is broken, you know what it is. But i would suggest trying everything though. So easy to remove if you don't like something, and it would be a shame to miss some of the gems that are out there.

If you elaborate on what you mean by "can't recognise" perhaps we can help? What OS are you running on?

Just checking, if you made the folder, you have called it 'AddOns' haven't you?...upper case 'A' and 'O' and all one word.

Well I've installed it on my Macbook and it works ok,
I can put the oxp's in the "extras" folder ok, so I'll try and re-install it on my other mac later, just hope I can keep my save file, don't fancy starting as harmless on Lave again with a pulse laser.

Thanks for all the assistance, keep the suggestions for oxp's coming

Hey Ebbo,

Welcome aboard!

I'd also install some mission packs, it is always nice to have some extra things to do while cruising the ooniverse, some of those are really good!

Enjoy!

Greetz,
Onno.

Indeed, what Onno said. Take a look at the [wiki]Oolite Missions[/wiki] page, it lists the prerequisites for each mission (e.g. which Galaxy you need to be in etc.). But only if you don't consider this information to be spoilers.

Well Finally got the oxp's working, it sees that a lll my hard work fitting my beloved Cobra out, was all in vain and I've had to start again on Lave. :( just what I didn't want, I installed a fresh copy onto my macbook and the expansion pack option was there, ran it and all was OK but as soon as I loaded my save game it all disappeared again, tried quitting and all the usual tricks but the only way I could get it to work was to completely remove all of oolite and reload, then I had to start all over, good job I found this out fairly early on, oh well the practice and extra training will be good for me, a bit rusty after 25 years and especially as my new joystick has turned up :D

I'll check a few missions out once I've kitted the Cobra out with some decent equipment.

Ebbo,

I sounds as if you have a saved game with "Strict Mode" enabled. This option set via F2 sets the game back to the old Elite, it disables all OXPs.

You are right. Chalk it up to having had the opportunity for some "training and familiarisation in the simulator" before facing laser fire and manual docking for real. You will get back to where you were very quickly, and when you are slogging your way from 3000 to 6000 kills on the way to Elite, you will think these past few days were but a blink of the Thargoid God's Trigger Claw.

Hi Cmdr. Ebbo.

Hi All
Just stumbled upon oolite after exploring the add ons for Celestia which I had been given Celestia for my 50th birthday.

Well what find, almost exactly as I remember it on my old Beeb micro all those years ago except far better graphics. and free!! would have gladly paid for this.

I look forward to all the forthcoming battles in the quest to becoming Elite once again.

I havent checked out any expansion packs as yet, anything I should be aware of? any particular order?

2 days in and I'm hooked, this is bad news as I'll never get anything done now :D :D

I was Elite back in the Beeb era.
Funny thing was I didn't see the wire frame, but seen them as 3D.
Totally hooked and didn't see any real improvements in later releases.

Untill my younger brother sent me a link to Oolite 1.65 a few years ago, with the proviso

"DON'T LOOSE YOUR HEED IN THIS LIKE LAST TIME!"

Yeh right!

A few hour later.. OOPs. What a game.

A must have for me is 'Random Hits' and 'Griffs ship set'.

A good tip is to create an 'Oolite Extra' folder so that it's next to your game or 'AddOn' folder.
Best place to keep all the OXPs. That your not using in the game at the moment.
There are a LOT.
Makes it easy to chop and change to make the game you like.
My computers aged ability limits what I can run, by chopping and changing to suit the galaxy and missions,
I keep a fluid game to my fun.

To all you Progers and Artists that make Oolite... My young brother just doesn't get it. Even at 46?
I can't imagine not playing.

Best game ever.
Thanks to all.
LOOK OUT!!!
OOPS..

Indeed, Random Hits is a nice addon to the game, just be sure you have some shield boosters and stronger weapons...

Yeah, you might even need to invest in a beam laser ;)
