Where did you get it? The last version I downloaded didn't work (I'm now running GIMP 2.6 and haven't tried since) - The odd time I've played with normal maps I've used the academic version of CrazyBump, which is lovely... (there's a free/trial version too)CaptSolo wrote:Got the normal map plugin for GIMP and it works! I am kindly asking for play testers who have shader supported computers. El Viego, you are off the hook. I know you are busy with other projects. Once I have everything configured I'll post a download link here.

Thanks Eric - I'll have a play (let's see how it gets on under Win7 (GIMP itself is OK))

That one's a Killer, Wolf!
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

Link provided by Eric is it. There are instructions what files in the zip go where.DaddyHoggy wrote:Where did you get it? As for if it works in-game I don't know as my computer doesn't support shaders or normalmaps, which is why I'm asking for people who do to test it. Making one in GIMP is a breeze. Load a diffuse texture map, go to filters, and you will find it under maps sub menu. The next part is not so easy and that is configuring the shaders section in shipdata.plist, which I borrowed from Griff's Cobra. The big problem is the detail Griff puts in his diffuse textures which come through in the normal map. I should amend that sentence: The problem is not Griffs it is mine because I don't have the the talent, time or patience to do that.

Re: Released - the Cobra Mark III-XT
When you just use normal maps, you don't need the shader section of shipdata.plist The materials section will do also. It keeps things simpler and oolite now uses a default shader file that will be enough for most ships.CaptSolo wrote:The next part is not so easy and that is configuring the shaders section in shipdata.plist, which I borrowed from Griff's Cobra.

“Now” meaning “since 1.70, released three and a half years ago”. :-)Eric Walch wrote:oolite now uses a default shader file that will be enough for most ships.

With 'now' I was referring to : after switching to using the materials section.Ahruman wrote:“Now” meaning “since 1.70, released three and a half years ago”.Eric Walch wrote:oolite now uses a default shader file that will be enough for most ships.

Re: Released - the Cobra Mark III-XT
After much mucking about with normal maps and custom shaders I am finally finished with it. You can reade about it here
The niormal maps worked fine but not the custom shaders. So I took a different approach thanks to the work of those who are much better at this than I am. I employed in addition to the diffuse map a greyscale emission map (colour modulated) and an RGB illumination map, both which add some life to the otherwise dull grey hull colour. Download from link above or here.

New Version with tweaked model and new skin job. Shaders from Griff for the effects you can see below. Released within the next day or two. Hey, can't compete with Griff, SimonB or Smivs, but modeling is fun and my stint at shipmaking is nearly over.
