Might be a noobish question....
Where can I get hold of 3D models for the OOlite ships?
I know that the .dat files exist in the OXP's but how do I go about converting them to blender?
Is there another source for them?
!m!

You need to have Python installed and then you run the dat2obj.py script that converts the .DAT file used by Oolite into an .Obj file that can be read by Blender.

Re: Ship 3D models.
Giles posted wings versions on the models on his site way back.
Not sure where to look for them now (since I'm sitting in a car park on an iPhone) but look on the capn hack site or look on google for oolite_ships_wings.zip (I think).

The originals are stil part of trunk. The are however in .mesh format. No idea if blender can import these.
With the limitation that this script can only convert dat files that use a single texture. The current obj2dat script does support multiple texture files.DaddyHoggy wrote:You need to have Python installed and then you run the dat2obj.py script that converts the .DAT file used by Oolite into an .Obj file that can be read by Blender.
UPS-Courier & DeepSpacePirates & others at the box and some older versions

Re: Ship 3D models.
Found the file. Uploaded it to my website for convenience.

It's in Wings format. You'll need to load them into Wings3D then convert them to OBJ files.
Oh, and I think the models are in scale with each other (according to the measurements in the original Elite manual).
