Re: Poll: What is your Ooniverse like?
I have tough guys 2 installed and I think I have I on the second level. I also have most of the oxp ships that were ever made, especially high-end ships like ships of the Isis Interstellar brand and uber-ships like the Benulobiweed ships. So I often find that I jump into an anarchy and find a pirate fleet of ten to twenty pirate ships, usually ships like various variants of the vampire series, maybe some werewolfs, a couple Benulobiweeds, and some more standard classic ships; all camping in the main space lane. edit: I forgot to mention that I also have npc shields installed and do hard level random hits to try and make a buck. So I would definitely say that my Ooniverse is Deadly or higher required, which quite possibly makes me insane since I am only dangerous.

Re: Poll: What is your Ooniverse like?
That's a little excessive, Smivs. Although one day I might go through it and count up the number of pirates versus traders in the ships' roles. Off the top of my head, my guess would be a 3/1 ratio.Smivs wrote:Copy the games' main shipdata.plist, and go through the copy with a text editor (NOT notepad). For every ship entry you will see a line that says "roles = ******;". Some will have several roles. Each time you see 'pirate' as a role, delete it or replace it with one of the other roles, such as 'hunter' or 'trader'. Put the new shipdata.plist in AddOns and, Lo, no more pirates. Anywhere, ever.Wildeblood wrote:"My Ooniverse has NO- I repeat, NO- piracy. I have hacked the system to remove pirates."
That would be my choice, if only I knew how. As is, I had to go with option 3: make it prettier, not more dangerous.
No, what I want is a simple script that cycles through every entity in the system checking the roles and just makes pirates spontaneously explode. As prime-able equipment: just press N for system pacification. For those times when I'm just not in the mood for being shot at. As usual the mysterious javascript syntax defeated me when I tried it. My log file filled with "Syntax error in System Pacifier.js" but no pirates exploded.

I agree. It'd be like an energy bomb, but only kills offenders and has unlimited range, plus has unlimited shots so you don't have to buy a new one every time you use it. I like the idea!Wildeblood wrote:...No, what I want is a simple script that cycles through every entity in the system checking the roles and just makes pirates spontaneously explode. Hey Ryan, speaking of fiddling about with ships' roles, did you ever get your personal station finished so you could dock and save games there? Cesuela wasn't it?

Re: Poll: What is your Ooniverse like?
Yeah, I'd say "Dangerous" to survive long in a Cobra MKIII, anyway. "Dangerous" to "Deadly". The NPCs have shields and there's some OXPs that up the action and add some bigger meaner ships. I suppose that less than "Dangerous" could manage ok, if they stuck to the safer systems. I wouldn't know much about that, I'm most often in Anarchy and Feudal systems, unless there's a revolution or mission going on somewhere. I tend to be where the action is. The Navy has some work for you now and then if things get slow, and the Seedy Bar is a favourite stop, as are the Royal Hunting Lodges. So there's enough to keep busy.
But if you don't look sharp, or it's a "reaction challenged" sort of day, you could get your "iron arse" handed back to you pretty easy. LOL
Lots of eye candy and pretty much any "wonder" sort of OXPs, like nifty asteroids and star jellies and Flying Dutchman and Stellar Serpents and so on. It's a pretty place, with some good potentials for a bit of adventure.
The Ooniverse from Carver's standpoint is a bit different. Still lots of eye candy and many sorts of ships, but the Anarchies are what life is all about. A "Dangerous" rating would still be about right, since Anarchy systems are places where even Galcop or the Navy might need to watch their scanners a bit. Carver is a quiet businessman sort in a freighter, so he often has an escort. Fortunately he knows where to find the ones that are less worried about legal ratings and work cheaper (in other words, that OXP has been hacked a bit). When there *is* an altercation, it tends to be more often two or more groups of ships having a bit of a tussle than one-on-one sort of fighting. So, win or lose, the dust-ups can be a bit spectacular to have seen and been in.
Just the other night, I came up on where a bunch of ships were lighting up space pretty well. Not sure how it started, since I got to the party late, but there was some Navy and some Thargoids and some big cargo ships and one or two packs o' laser coolant sniffin' Krait jockeys all just tearing up after each other pretty fierce. Not sure what touched all that off, but there were probably thirty ships making a laser-light show all over the middle of the spacelane by the time I and some boys and girls from back at the cove got there. By the time all was said and done I barely had any room for cargo, since so many unfortunates were needin' a lift back to the station. It was quite a little scuffle, though, and took the better part of an hour to sort it all out. Made a shiny credit or two off it though, and ye can lay to that.
But yeah, "Dangerous" could be a good word.

I got the station working, yes. But you can't save there, as it's not the main station. If it was, my house would be a bit too crowded. It is in Cesoulsa. The OXP is free to download from my website's OXP page, http://www.ryanhoots.com/p/oxps.html.Wildeblood wrote:Hey Ryan, speaking of fiddling about with ships' roles, did you ever get your personal station finished so you could dock and save games there? Re: Poll: What is your Ooniverse like?
You dag. You have to specify station=ryan_villa in the planetinfo.plist to make it the main station. Then, if you want a second station to be a fake Galcop main station, you add that one with the addships script. And while you're at it, fiddle the tech level up to 15, so you can buy any kind of equipment.RyanHoots wrote:I got the station working, yes. I'm going to keep it the way it is, I don't really want it as the main station.Wildeblood wrote:You dag. You have to specify station=ryan_villa in the planetinfo.plist to make it the main station. So what are you doing with it? Are you going to add some activity like a hOopy Casino? I like having lots of stations, but I get frustrated that they're all the same once you dock. Like the Constores, they come in 7 different brands, but they all share the same market definition. That's anti-competitive price collusion. That's illegal where I live IRL.RyanHoots wrote:I'm going to keep it the way it is, I don't really want it as the main station.

Re: Poll: What is your Ooniverse like?
I have some tough ships in my Ooniverse.
Dragons, Excaliburs, Reduxed Vampires, GN with it's pirate frigates, Kirins, Rattle Cutters, Iguanas, Random Hits, and of course the heavy hitting Bugs from Thargoid Threat, 2nd Wave and Thargoid Carrier.
a Jameson could survive here, if he stuck to the safe systems and flew off the spacelanes 'till he got some iron on his ass.

Re: Poll: What is your Ooniverse like?
It'd make more sense if every dockable location in a system had a different market and some different ships and facilities available. Logically, each system would have a sub-economy other than the main station, and one should be able to spend a good bit of time in a single system so far as opportunities if that's how one chooses to focus their play at the moment. But in vanilla Oolite, the main stations are the only dockable places, so the main game focus is likely to remain system-hopping oriented.
Sleep? Who needs sleep? Got game. No need sleep.
